In 1916, the Coast Guard Station at Perth Amboy was relocated to Hackensack and then to Elizabethport in 1922. The first Coast Guard cutter, "Hercules" (CGC-1), was built at Camden Naval Shipyard in 1940. "Hercules" served as the Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron cutter from 1943-1945 during World War II. She then became the Commanding Officer's Cutter (COMCAT) from 1946-1948 before being decommissioned and sold for preservation in 1970.
