The Guttenberg Army National Guard was mobilized in 1915 and has been deployed to the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. The unit's history can be traced back to 1915 when the New Jersey Militia was disbanded and its members were organized into a battalion of the 3rd Infantry. In 1916, the battalion was redesignated as the 2nd Battalion, 5th Regiment, New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. On November 12, 1918, after World War I ended and the United States became an independent country, the regiment was re-designated as the 1st Battalion (New Jersey), 5th Regiment (Light Horse). In 1921 it was again redesignated as the 2nd Battalion (New Jersey), 5th Regiment (Heavy Horse). It reverted to its original name in 1942 when it became part of the 99th Infantry Division. In 1945, following World War II and enactment ofthe National Defense Act of 1944, all National Guard units were placed under control ofthe Department of Defense with a few exceptions including those serving in European theaters such as Normandy and Southern France where they continued to wear their original uniform insignia. The Guttenberg Army National Guard remained intact until March 1947 when it was re-organized into two battalions each made up of 9 officers and 175 enlisted men. The first battalion sailed for Korea on May 15, 1951 while the second sailed for Japan on July 4 that same year. Both battalions arrived in Japan on August 8 after spending five weeks training at Sekigahara air base before disembarking at Ueda Naval Base on September 20. They served with distinction during Operation Summit which aimed to expel UNC forces from Yokosuka Prefecture during summer 1952. After returning home from Korea both battalions were demobilized on October 14 but retained their organizational structure with each consisting of 25 officers and 550 enlisted men divided among three battalions numbered 382 through 386 respectively which would serve concurrently throughout most of 1953 making only brief tours outside NJ state for overseas duty in support operations against North Vietnamese troops or counterinsurgency campaigns within NJ such as Operation Neptune’s Spear or Project Demolition Directive 18 where artillery pieces were used against guerrilla fighters operating around Plattsburgh AFB or Fort Dix CSF Campground located off Route 22 near Star Lake NY On June 30 1960 both Battalions amalgamated forming one brigade sized unit known as "The 1st Brigade/6th Armored Cavalry" activated at Ridgewood Arsenal next door to Ridgewood Military Academy preparatory thereto for assignment later that year to NATO presumably stationed in Germany however no such deployment occurred In 1990 First Brigade/6TH Armored Cavalry disembarks from Ridgewood Arsenal redeploying next door Ft Monmouth County Police Dept SWAT team assets now assigned there also activation pending request by Govt Atlantic City CO Gibbons Aviation Museum & Airshow Complex owner interests now included

Guttenberg is a town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 11,679 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-Trenton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Guttenberg Township name comes from Johann Wilhelm Guttenberg (1646-1726), an early settler in the area who named his farm "Guttenberg" after his father. The first European to visit what is now Guttenberg Township was Giovanni da Verrazzano on October 10, 1524. The township was formed on March 14, 1812 out of parts of Union and Westfield townships. The first throughborn resident of the township was George Washington Carver Jr., son of George Washington Carver Sr., who settled here in 1810. He farmed and founded several businesses including a cotton gin and gristmill which he began operation in 1814 and still operates today as a millinery store/grocery establishment on Meetinghouse Road near Northumberland Avenue. In 1850, Guttenberg had a population of 406; by 1870 it had grown to 1,868 with 706 houses and 6 villages within its limits (the village being split off from Guttenberg in 1902). In 1914 it had 890 inhabitants; by 1940 it had reached 2,144 with 902 houses and 12 villages within its boundaries (the village being split off from Guttenberg again in 1950). By 1960 there were only 375 residents remaining within the limits of the township; by 2000 there were fewer than 350 residents remaining within its boundaries (the last reported count being on July 1st). Guttenberg has experienced significant economic growth over recent decades due to its proximity to Newark City Center and its location between two major highways – I-78 and I-95 – making it easy for people to get around town. Today's economy relies heavily upon manufacturing as well as services such as education, healthcare and retail trade but some traditional sectors such as agriculture have also seen success over the years such as dairy farming or crop production

Guttenberg is a small town in the eastern corner of New Jersey, United States. Guttenberg was founded in 1709 by Baron Pieters van der Meer on the Hackensack River. The Guttenberg family has continuously been involved in the community and local politics since then. Guttenberg is now home to over 1,000 residents and is one of the oldest settlements in Monmouth County. The Guttenberg name comes from two German settlers, Gottfried and Wilhelm, who arrived at about the same time as Baron Pieters van der Meer. Gottfried's brother Wilhelm helped found what would become Guttenberg and developed its landowning practices. After Wilhelm died young in 1711, his widow married Nicholas de Vossenburgh, an official with the Dutch East India Company (VOC). With her husband's help, she began purchasing land around Guttenberg from Native American tribes. By 1724 she had acquired nearly all of what would beMonmouth County. In 1802 Nicholas de Vossenburgh donated much of his property to form Rutgers University – which today forms part of State University of New Jersey (SUNJ) – making him one of the earliest recipients of university-related gifts in America. The Guttenberg Paper Mill was built between 1827 and 1830 by Abram Hertzog and his son Friedrich Hertzog Jr., two brothers who were also entrepreneurs in their own right. It was one of Monmouth County’s largest employers until it closed its doors in 1978 due to competition from larger mills operating out of nearby Edison Township. The mill ground paper for a variety of products including magazines, newspapers, posters, flags and other items for sale throughout New Jersey during the 1800s and early 1900s; however it ceased operations becauseMNJ didn’t have enough raw materials to support such large production efforts any longer
