Gourmet Coffee has been a part of Gloucester City, New Jersey since the early 1800s. The first coffee house in Gloucester City was established in 1792 by Nicholas Gault and his brother-in-law, Arthur Phillips. In 1810, John Pemberton opened the first restaurant in Gloucester City and served coffee from a small shop on Market Street. By 1817, Gourmet Coffee had become one of the leading restaurants in town. The business grew rapidly during the 19th century and by 1872, Gourmet Coffee had moved to its current location on Union Street. In 1927, Harry Jaffe built Jaffe's Café which became one of the most popular tourist spots in town. The café was eventually sold to Harry Weinberger who operated it until 1984 when it was closed down for good. Today only a few remnant pieces of Jaffe's Cafe remain; however, the fascinating history of this landmark restaurant is still well worth exploring!

The Gloucester City Coffee Company was founded in 1892 by brothers Hiram and Edward J. Coffey. The company grew rapidly, expanding to a dozen locations by 1915. In 1916, the Coffey brothers acquired the former Acme Brewing Company in Gloucester City and began production of their own coffee products. In 1926, the company merged with two other companies to become the Gloucester City Coffee Corporation. The corporation continued to grow steadily, purchasing additional property and building new facilities over the years. By 1976, the company had multiple hundred employees and operations encompassing four buildings in Gloucester City.
Gloucester City is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 17,785 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest town in Middlesex County after Paterson. The first European settlers in what is now Gloucester City were Dutch and Irish immigrants who began arriving during the 18th century. They erected small cottages on a marshy swamp near the present day intersection of Broad Street and Market Street. The first schools were built here in 1795 and 1796. In 1814, Pennsylvania granted land to John Armstrong for a village called "Armstrong's Mills". The name was changed to Gloucester Township in 1834 and to Gloucester City in 1886. The city was founded as part of an effort by George Washington to create a new township on his estate at Mount Vernon that would be separate from New York City proper. Washington named it for his father-in-law, Sir Robert Barclay (1727–1801), 2nd Baronet of Skye (the son of Alexander Barclay, 4th Viscount Stirling). He also chose its location because it lay between two lines of fortifications along the Delaware River meant to protect Philadelphia from British invasion: one ran southeast from Trenton through Princeton Junction into New Brunswick; the other ran northwest from Camden into Bucks County. Washington's originaltownship had a population of just 25 people when he took office as President on January 20, 1789—just three days after his inauguration—but it grew rapidly due to natural growth and immigration over the next several years. By 1800, there were 1,500 residents living in Gloucester City proper; by 1824, there were 10,000 residents living therein within limits established by act of Congress which regulated internal migration within certain bounds set by Governor James Bridgeford (1781–1847). In 1860, following the American Civil War and Reconstruction efforts across America spearheaded by Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of War Edwin Stanton (), with help from financiers such as Jethro Gibbs (), Gloucester City became one of several townships within newly created Union territory that became parts of Jersey Shore communities like Eastvale (1912) or Atlantic Highlands (1928). That same year saw its first school opening - Drury School - inside what is now Municipal Hall complex on Market Street where classes continued until 1958 when they moved out onto Broad Avenue adjacent to then municipally run Parkside Apartments Complex before finally moving back inside Municipal Hall campus starting in 1984 until closed down circa 2006 due mainlyto lack of funding however some activism has been conducted outside Presence Catholic High School since their reopening today as St Josephs Academy despite having no connection with either parent company

Gloucester City, New Jersey is a small town located in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. The community is named for General Sir John Prescott who fought in the American Revolution. The first European to visit Gloucester City were the Dutch in 1609. In 1701, Captain John Smith of Newtown explored and surveyed this area before coming across the Monmouth River and starting his own settlement there. In 1764, as part of Colonel James Moore's expedition against Fort George on Long Island, General William Howe set up camp near present-day Gloucester City and stores were established here while Howe made his way back to England. In 1814, during the War of 1812, British forces burned down taverns and other buildings in what is now downtown Gloucester City after they captured Fort Lee on Staten Island. This event led to increased business activity in what became known as "the entertainment district." After the war ended, settlement continued with farmers moving into what is now central Gloucester City from southeastern Middlesex County and rural areas north of Interstate 95. By 1850, there were over 1,500 people living in Gloucester City including 300 farmers. During World War II many businesses located around downtown closed due to wartime rationing but most reopened later when war production resumed throughout much of America. One notable business that did not close was a brewery which operated out of a building on Market Street until it closed its doors for good in 1951 due to Prohibition-era regulations prohibiting alcohol sales within city limits outside of liquor stores owned by either side). Downtown redevelopment occurred during the early 1990s with various new shops and restaurants opening along Market Street while also renovating older buildings such as Douglass High School which served as an apartment complex until it closed its doors in 1998 after more than 50 years occupancy; formerly entire blocks between Broadway Avenue (now Broadwalk Boulevard) and Market Street had been deserted except for a few mobile homes converted into apartments over time). As development continued along Broadwalk Boulevard some conversions took place such as conversion of an old factory lot into housing (now called "The Landing"), demolition of several century-old brick buildings including one dating back to 1814 which housed local courtrooms (now occupied by Quinnipiac University), creation of two parks - one featuring tennis courts adjacent to Douglass High School (which has since been demolished) and another Featuring softball diamonds adjoining Wexford High School - both completed c2010; mixed use/residential developments are currently being built above former industrial sites along Center Street just east ofBroadwalkBoulevard
Gloucester City was founded in 1788 by General James Wilson, who also founded Princeton University. The city's first mayor was Nicholas-Jacques Conte. In 1836, it became the capital of New Jersey and the seat of government for both the state and the federal districts. Gloucester City experienced financial difficulties during the Great Depression, but recovered to become one of the most prosperous cities in New Jersey.
