The Gloucester City, New Jersey Coast Guard Gift History began in 1903 when the incorporation of the city followed a request by then-Mayor Harry H. McCloskey for a municipal police force. The Coast Guard was established on October 1, 1903 as an arm of the mayor's office and initially consisted of five officers. In 1912, the first Coast Guard Cutter, CG "John Fitch", was commissioned into service and became available for use by the town Police Department. In 1916, Mayor McCloskey requested that the Coast Guard establish a station in Gloucester City to provide law enforcement services along the coastal region. The request was granted and CG "Newark" was erected at 12th Street and Market Place in front of city hall. CG "Newark" served as a stationary ashore marine patrol unit until 1947 when it decommissioned and was sold to Camden County for use as a dumpster truck. It is currently preserved at Seaside Park amusement park where it can be visited during summertime programming. In 1951, Mayor Harry Hennigan requested that the Coast Guard establish an onboard museum in Gloucester City to commemorate its history and serve as a resource for future generations. The Request was approved and CG Museum #1was constructed at Terminal Avenue and Market Place within city limits with funds provided by local businesses wishing to contribute to the project. The main attraction of CG Museum #1 is its collection of vintage Coast guard gear which includes both manned vessels (CG Ships) and unmannedboats (Uboat Midshipmen). There are also several exhibits focusing on maritime history from early days up through present day including artifacts from various historical missions such as Search & Rescue operations off Long Island Sound during World War II or Operation Neptune's Spear off Yemen during Operation Desert Storm In 1987, with funding provided by federal stimulus money, new maintenance capabilities were added to CG Museum #1 known as Fleet Operations Center (FOC). This addition allowed for more efficient storage/ display of historic assets while providingual support for all aspects of research related to coast guard activities dating back over 100 years! The Gloucester City Coast Guard was founded in 1854 as the Gloucester County Volunteer Firemen's Association. The first president of the Coast Guard was Captain John H. Dickinson and the first Commandant was Captain James Fenton. In 1889, the Coast Guard bought their present base on Wickliffe Island from the town of Southampton. On July 1, 1896, President Grover Cleveland signed an act appropriating $1,000 for a new coast guard station at Gloucester City. The station became operational on October 10, 1896 under command of First Lieutenant Charles Dyer. On December 12, 1916 Governor Woodrow Wilson signed an act appropriating $10,000 for a new coast guard station at Southold and operation began on January 2, 1917 with First Lieutenant Clarence Wickersham as Commandant. On November 8th 1918 First Lt Harry Acker assumed command from First Lt Clarence Wickersham after his death in action in World War I while serving with Company C New York Engineer Battalion No 54th Infantry Regiment; he had been killed right before Christmas in action near Rouen France when his unit distinguished itself by capturing 9 enemy prisoners-of-war who were being transported across the Channel to England on a luxury train

The name of Gloucester City comes from English settlers who arrived there in 1608 and named it "Glebe". The first mayor of Gloucester City was James Craighead. Gloucester City is located on the east bank of the Susquehanna River and is bordered by Chester on the north and east, Allentown to the south, and Paterson to the west. Interstate 95 runs through its center. The Susquehanna River forms most of its eastern border, but a small part of its western border is shared with Easton Township. Philadelphia proper lies to the southwest and less than one half mile (0.8 km) away to the northwest across Route 23 artery

It is now located at Joint Base Elmendorf - Richardson (JBER), Alaska and provides support for all helicopter flights within Alaska airspace as well as unique flyovers of Anchorage Airport during major holidays or events.

Gloucester City, New Jersey is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,914 at the 2010 census. As of the 2015 Census it had grown to 11,171 people. The name Gloucester City comes from Englishman Edmund Spenser's 1593 poem "The Faerie Queene." Gloucester City was founded on November 10, 1758 by Captain John Stevens and his men as a stop on the way to Westampton from Burlington. On October 8, 1760 the first post office opened in Gloucester City with nine residents. In 1763 the first store was established in Gloucester City and Reuben Parsons became its first owner and operator. The town declined during the Revolutionary War because of its location near Yorktown and Philadelphia. However, in 1802 it regained its status as a borough due to statehood changes occurring that year; however it did not achieve full municipal autonomy until 1892 when it merged with neighbouring Westampton Township. In 1951 Gloucester City passed an ordinance allowing for public nudity which has since become an integral part of local culture. In 1990s-2000s many small businesses were established within the city limits including shoe stores and clothing stores as well as restaurants such as KFC which still operates today across two streets off Route 13 (though closed during most major holidays). During this time also large new developments began to appear such as Verizon Wireless' current headquarters complex located on Route 13 across from KFC; Salesforce Tower; and FirstEnergy's Buffalo Hills power plant complex adjacent to KFC & other small businesses throughout what would become known as 'the downtown'. Nowadays there are only a few scattered buildings remaining that date back to this era – one being FirstEnergy's Buffalo Hills power plant complex which functions now primarily as offices/research facilities for their customers - while much of Downtown is made up of recentresidential construction projects or commercial development including several high-end apartments and retail outlets along Broad Street corridor between Main Street & Market Place Streets (formerly known locally as 'Broad Street Corridor').
