The Gloucester City Air Force detachment is responsible for the storage, distribution, and presentation of military gifts to members of the local community. From horses to motorcycles, the detachment has a wide variety of gift items available for display or use. One of the detachment's oldest traditions is the deployment gift history display. This displays gifts given to members of the air force by civilians in Gloucester City during wartime. The displays are usually held at an event adjacent to the battalion headquarters. Since its inception, the display has been a popular attraction for residents and visitors alike. It allows civilians in Gloucester City to learn more about how their city was impacted by military service and also provides a unique opportunity to meet air force personnel. This year, as part of Veterans Day ceremonies, the detachment will again present its gift history display. This time, however, it will be located inside Unit 1B at Fort Dix Army Medical Center on October 11th from 10am-12pm

Gloucester City is a town in New Jersey, United States. The population was 12,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden- hooked region. The first Europeans to visit what is now Gloucester City were French traders and missionaries who came up the Delaware River in 1684. On October 18, 1764, George Washington set out from Trenton on his way to Mount Vernon when he reached the junction of the Paterson Canal and New Jersey Turnpike and saw "a small village lying on its side with all its buildings destroyed by a storm which had just passed." The name of this village was then changed to Gloucester because of this event. In 1787, Nathan Hale's unit under General Howe fought against British forces at Saratoga during the American Revolutionary War under Sir John Moore's command and after capturing Fort Clinton they burned much of that fort including most of the town《the first time an open field had been burned in America》 In 1814, when Gloucester County became part of UnionNew Jersey, it remained an independent township until 1830 when it became a part of Camden as one division in what later became Camden County. In 1834 it become an incorporated municipality with a population over 10,000 people On November 5th 1865, during World War II Japanese forces landed near Cape May Point on Long Island Sound and skirmished with American forces for several days before withdrawing southward across Monmouth Bay into New York Harbor
The United States Air Force has a rich history of deploying gifts. The first gift was given by President George Washington in 1775. He delivered an olive branch to the French Embassy in Philadelphia. In 1949, Air Force General Curtis LeMay presented a bottle of scotch to then-President Harry Truman as a way of showing appreciation for his support for the American war effort in Korea. In 1971, General Dynamics Corporation donated 1,000 pounds of surplus missiles to the USAF as part of Operation Merry Christmas. This donation helped improve logistics for US military operations worldwide. Today, gifts are still important to the USAF. In 2013, Air Force Chief Master Sergeant John "Jelly" Ferguson presented a copy of Commander James Mattis's book "A Better Tomorrow: Reflections on War and Peace" to Secretary Clinton at Fort Meade military base outside Baltimore, Maryland. The gift was part of an overall effort by Air Force Commanders and Major Generals across all services to celebrate Mattis's induction into the flying Hall Of Fame at Maxwell AFB near Atlanta, Georgia on October 12th. The USAF deployed gift history in 1949. The service activated the Gift History Program in 1948 as a way to recognize and appreciate the contributions of those who serve their country. The program has grown over the years to include items such as medals, insignia, and other memorabilia from members of the USAF.
Gloucester City was founded in 1764 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his family. The town was named for the city of Gloucester, England which the Conte family had recently fled to during the American Revolution. The first settler in Gloucester City, John Hitchcock, arrived in 1765. He built a small cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1802, Captain James Cook discovered land at what is now Gloucester City and made an initial landing there on July 10th, 1802. This event is considered the beginning of the town’s growth. The first store opened in 1819 and the first post office was established in 1823. By 1830, there were over 100 residents living in Gloucester City. The town experienced some success during its early years but quickly fell into obscurity after it lost its status as a result of being located within New Jersey’s Second Congressional District (which at that time included all of Philadelphia). However, this didn’t stop locals from continuing to live and work in their small community until well into the 20th century. During World War II, many people from Gloucester City volunteered to serve their country both locally and overseas. Many residents also worked downtown where they manufactured munitions while others engaged in various businesses such as grocery stores or car salesmen. Although not everyone actively participated in war effort, many civilians did contribute efforts such as fundraising or working inside military bases throughout New Jersey during wartime period due to scarce resources available outside of Philadelphia area . After World War II ended and new political boundaries were set up within New Jersey including Gloucester City within First Congressional District (which included all of Philadelphia), many residents decided that it would be better for them to move away from their former home and start anew elsewhere within the state limits . However, many remain active members of local communities here today thanks to our rich history which continues to grow year-by-year
The Gloucester City, New Jersey area was originally part of South Monmouth County. The first mention of Gloucester City is in a deed from Nicholas de Montresor to the citizens of Southampton on December 10, 1484. In 1777, the township was created from parts of two other townships - West Long Branch and East Long Branch - when South Monmouth County was divided into three wards. In 1814, the Township became a Borough when it became one of five municipalities within the newly formed Bergen County. On May 15, 1824, the Borough changed its name to Gloucester City and on July 1, 1829 its boundaries were amended to include all of North Brunswick Township as well as portions of Plumsted Township and Union Township. On February 2, 1911, Gloucester City annexed parts of North Brunswick Township including Prospect Park. On December 3rd that year it became a city with its own Mayor and Council members. That same year it also annexed portions of Union Township including White Sands which at that time consisted only of some sand dunes along an inland sea shoreline
