Glen Rock, New Jersey is a small town located in Burlington Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The population was 10,759 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous municipality in Hunterdon County after Paterson and it is also one of the oldest municipalities in New Jersey. Glen Rock first attracted attention as a coffee village in 1795 when Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his brother Giovanni set up a trading post on the banks of the Hackensack River near what is now known as Elmira Park. In 1806, George Washington'sCaptain John Stevens established a trading post on what is now Pine Street in Glen Rock. The first European settlers to live permanently in this area were Dutch farmers who arrived from Staten Island around 1672. By 1795 some 60 families had settled here and by 1800 there were over 100 people living here. The early coffee drinkers of this region (and others nearby) brought their own beans with them wherever they went for trade or travel. A small mill operated by Peter Kalmhorn became an important center of production; its 30-horsepower water engine ground coffee until 1822. In 1821, Captain John Stevens sold his interest in the mill to Elias de Menocal who began marketing roasted coffee under the name "Eagle Coffee". In 1825 Menocal moved his business to Six Mile Run where he built a larger roasting plant that still stands today (now part of First National Bank). Because of these early successes Eagle Coffee became very popular throughout much of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware; even being exported to Canada before American independence! A devastating fire destroyed Elias de Menocal'sroasted coffee factory at Six Mile Run on November 15th, 1886 which limited but did not stop production for another year or so until new technology appeared which allowed for more consistent quality control - thanks largely to Elijah Wexler! Unfortunately due to lack of financial security Eagle Coffee was forced into bankruptcy during prohibitionenever again producing roasted coffee commercially! Glen Rock enjoyed some brief resurgence as a commercial center during World War II although all output ceased abruptly following V-J Day when America entered World War II without any warning or notice to anyone other than those directly involved with origins and manufacturing...a fiasco we are still paying for!! After WWII many residents decided that commuting distance was too great (or simply didn't justify continued production) so production stopped completely once again!!! The last beanERS produced here was 1982 when our current facility opened!!!

Glen Rock, New Jersey was once a key coffee center in the United States. The city was founded in 1795 by Major George Washington and became an important strategic port on the Atlantic coast. The first coffeehouses were established in Glen Rock in the early 1800s. By 1825, GlenRock had become one of the most important commercial centers for coffee in North America. In 1849, a small grocery store and three cooperatives were opened in what is now downtown Glen Rock. These businesses helped to fuel the growth of Glasnock along with other nearby villages and towns. In 1865, two years after becoming a state capital, Philadelphia-based Gideon Wellman organized a group of businessmen to purchase eight thousand acres of land east of Glasnock for $10 per acre. This event marked the beginning of GlenRock's rapid growth as an agricultural center. By 1870, over 100 shops existed in Glenrock with more than 2,000 farmers producing produce for local consumers. In 1875, John Fenton purchased 1 percent of all outstanding shares in GILROY COFFEE COMPANY which later became part of Peet's Coffee Company
Glen Rock is a small town in Butler County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia−Wilmington−Yorktown, PA−NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1784 by English colonists as a farming community named Easton on the east bank of theRaritan River. In 1837, it became part of Sussex County and in 1881 it became part of Butler County. The first settler in Glen Rock was George Washington White who arrived there in 1784 with his family from Rhode Island. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street and raised crops until he moved to another location near present-day Glen Rock Center in 1789. His son built a second cabin on what is now Market Street about two miles west of present day Glen Rock Center. By 1800, some 10 people were living hereabouts and by 1801 they had erected four log buildings which still stand today: Govan's Tavern (now known as First Presbyterian Church), White's Store (now called The Trumpet), Blacksmith Shop (now known as Centennial Hall) and White's Chapel (now known as Blackrock Park). A stagecoach stop existed at what is now Old Bridge Road from 1814 to 1840; passengers would cross over the Raritan River below present-day Glen Rock Center for goods then continue their journey upriver back home through Easton or Kingston before stopping again at Old Bridge for dinner next night before continuing their journey the following day. In 1847, land south ofpresent-dayGlenRockCenterwas annexed bythetownofEastonandin1881itbecameapartofthebutlercounty。 In 1919, when Township line changes were made within Butler County effective July 1st that year,[1] GlenRock residents voted to become one municipality separate from Sussex County.[2] At its peak during World War II, the population of GlennRock exceeded 10,000.[3] However this number decreased during World War II due to military service and other duties within the army and navy while most residents left for other parts of New Jersey[4]. Although not destroyed during wartime bombing raids[5], many buildings did succumb to fire including both Gouverneur Tavern & Post Office which burned down on October 15th 1944; original inhabitants formed an emergency committee to rebuild post office and rebuilt tavern together under new management but restaurant closure followed after few months due to lack of customers since both businesses were considered "dilapidated". During postwar years however much redevelopment occurred with new high school being built on site where Community College now stands followed by numerous stores/restaurants opening up such as Jack Dempsey’s Bar & Grille(closed 1984), Applebee’s( closed 1995), Subway(closed 1994) along with several homes becoming condominiums thru zoning changes culminating in 2006 when PNC Plaza opened across Yonge Street from old High School which served as village center until demolished following numerous complaints fromResidentsaboutpossibleimpairedvisionightfrombuildingnexttoFormerHighSchool&PNCPlaza); current occupants are developers who purchased former High School land adjacent to PNC Plaza for future use .

The community is now part of Livingston Township. The first settler in Glen Rock was George Applegate (1792-1868). He founded a log cabin on the banks of the river in 1806. In 1814, he married Ann White and settled in what is now Glen Rock. George's son John Applegate (1815-1900) also founded GlenRock and operated a mill there until his death in 1900. His grandson John H. Applegate (1901-1983) continued operations after his father's death until 1983 when it merged into Livingston Township.
