The coffee industry in Glen Rock, New Jersey has been around for over 100 years. The first coffee beans were grown on the property of Dr. John Pemberton in 1868. In 1907, a cooperative was started by farmers in the area and it is still active today. The coffee beans are roasted and processed here in Glen Rock. The history of artisan coffee goes back to at least 1865 when Nicholas Applegate opened his business called "Nicholas' Coffee House" in what is now the heart of Glen Rock. After years of growth, Applegate sold his business in 1875 to James Ackerley. Ackerley continued to run Nicholas' Coffee House until it closed its doors for good in 1902. In 1903, Isaac Seaton became the owner of Nicholas' Coffee House and started operations as an American-owned café with two roasting machines and 12 cups per hour serve customers their morning cup of Joe (or Koffee). In 1916, Seaton partnered with George Wickersham who ran the business until his death in 1951. Wickersham left behind a legacy that continues today - he donated all profits from Nicholas' Coffee House to charity each year throughout his life. After many years of operation by different owners, including Harry Smith's family from 1936-1949 and Jack Baxendale's family starting 1966-1988, Artisan Coffee Corporation was founded on September 9th, 1988 by Pietro Pellegrini and Angelo Sestieri under the name Artisan Coffee South Jersey Incorporated (ACSI). Pellegrini had purchased a small commercial roaster located inside the old Newark Terminal building which he renamed "Artisan Roasters". ACSI succeeded where SI had failed - they produced quality espresso drinks at reasonable prices for consumers throughout New Jersey without breaking the bank like SI did with their much more expensive items such as cappuccinos or lattes

The first coffee shops in Glen Rock were established in the late 1800s. In 1902, The Globe Coffee House opened, and it was the first café in Glen Rock. In 1912, The Dutch Bros. Coffee Shop opened, and it was the first store in Glen Rock that sold coffee. In 1916, The Eagle Coffee House opened, and it was the first cafe in Glen Rock to serve tea. In 1928, The Dutch Bros. Cafe closed down and became a restaurant called Netherland’s Diner. In 1954, The Dutch Bros.' Tea Room reopened as the Netherland's Diner again. It operated until 1978 when it became a bar with its own kitchen and disappeared from history for good.
Glen Rock is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 28,591 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Trenton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Glen Rock Township were Dutch immigrants who arrived in 1664. They named their settlement "Houtenburgh" after an estate located near Rotterdam, Netherlands. In 1720, the township was created from portions of Elizabethtown and Monmouth Township. On February 14, 1821, it became part of what would become Union County when it was formed from parts of Middlesex and Union counties. In 1834, a group of Scottish farmers founded a farm called Belleair on the edge of present-day Glen Rock Township. The farmstead still stands today and is known as Belleair Farm Museum. In 1840, John Atherton purchased land comprising most of present-day Glenrock Township from James Peddle for $1 million dollars cash sold at public auction. Atherton had earlier bought land west of Trenton along Raritan Creek for $2 million dollars which he built into what is now East Orange Village and then developed into one of New Jersey's largest agricultural communities with over 100 businesses (including 20 cotton plantations). Atherton's development has been credited with helping to start the township's current growth by creating more jobs than any other community in eastern New Jersey during the mid-19th century alone; this growth continued until World War II when skyrocketing prices for farmland led many farmers to move out to Interstate 95 or further west into states such as Pennsylvania or California where wages were much higher. Afterward, many residents chose to stay within their own communities and townships while others moved away due to changingindustrial conditions or changes in zoning laws in neighboring municipalities which increased rental rates without providing comparable access to quality homes or amenities like transportation options outside the town limits

Glen Rock is a town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,532 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Newark-East Rutherford metropolitan area. The first permanent set of white settlers arrived in 1798 from Ireland via what is now Philadelphia. They were followed by Germans in 1815 and Swedes in 1823. In 1834, the federal government designated land for a school district, which led to the name "Glen Rock." The first school opened in 1840 and was located on Main Street near present-day Glen Rock High School. In 1865, the railroad reached Glen Rock and made it an important center for trade and commerce. In 1895, local businessmen founded the Glenrock phosphate company which became one of America's largest producers of phosphate rock until it went bankrupt in 1912. More recent history includes several companies that have shared town plaza including Jardine & Matheson (1962), Goldman Sachs (2002), Comcast (2006), Pfizer (2007) and Verizon Wireless (2013). In 2001, Glennrock Township formed from parts of Hunterdon County when that county merged with Mercer County. As part of the merger agreement, both townships agreed to share a combined total population of 24,451 people; however, only Glencroft Township has since annexed any other municipalities within its boundaries.
The Glen Rock area was first settled in the 17th century. The original name of the community was "Balkans". It may have been derived from a Native American word meaning "resting place." The community changed its name to " Glen Rock" in 1847. During World War II, Glen Rock played an important role as a munitions depot. After the war, the community experienced growth and development. In 1979, GlenRock became a borough within Passaic County. Today, GlenRock is a vibrant community with many businesses and residents. It is home to several parks and schools, as well as several factories that produce goods for local areas such as New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
