The Glen Rock Armory was established in 1792 as the first armory in America. It served as a garrison and military depot until 1814, when it became a training ground for the New Jersey Militia. The armory was used by both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps before its closure in 1945.
Glen Rock is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,526 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-Trenton-Hudson, NJ Combined Statistical Area. The town was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1798 and became a center for manufacturing and commerce. The area now known as Glen Rock was first settled in the early 1800s by farmers from Ulster who had come to America to find new land. In 1814, William Smallwood built the first gristmill on the east side of the creek that forms Glen Rock's namesake. The mill provided both flour and water for local farms until it closed in 1869. In 1868, James Auld purchased 1/4 acre (0.21 km2) of land near present-day Glen Rock Center for $5 per mile (1 per km). He named his tract "Auld's Hill". By 1870, Auld had erected a two-story brick building on his lot which served as his home and store until he sold it to Prentice Willoughby in 1874. Willoughby began developing what would become Glen Rock Center into an agricultural community with four stores, a schoolhouse, three barns and a large woodlot where he farmed corn, tobacco and other crops until he donated it to the township in 1886. Glenrock's growth continued through World War II as many local businesses grew during wartime production: munitions plants; Bell Labs; Ford Motor Company; Wegman's Department Stores; Bethlehem Steel Corporation; Chase National Bank; Allied Signal Corporation; General Electric Company; Rutgers University – New Brunswick (now Brown University); PSE&G Railroad Company - later Penn Central Railroad Company - operating locomotives services from various locations along Route 66 including Glennrock Depot & Engine House #1 located just south of today's intersection of Sheffield Road & State Route 22 (then called Sussex Road), now Interstate 95 outside of Rossville Township

Glen Rock is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,471 at the 2010 census. Glen Rock is located on the eastern bank of the Hackensack River and it straddles the border of Bergen County to the north and Passaic County to the south. The first recorded settler in what is now Glen Rock was Nicholas de Bryne who arrived in 1664. In 1701, Adam French built a house on what is now Main Street in Glenrock. By 1800, there were nine houses in town. In 1824, Daniel Robison erected a gristmill on what became Allendale Avenue. In 1827, John D'Augereau donated land for a public school near what is now Park Avenue and Main Street; this school opened in 1829 as "Harrison's School". A year later (1830), another donation from D'Augereau created "Newburgh Academy" which operated until 1906 when it closed due to financial reasons. On February 3rd, 1835, during Andrew Jackson's second term as President of the United States he approved creation of a township by order of Congress under Section 8 of The Civil Rights Act (1837). On July 1st following his inauguration as Mayor of Newark Liberty University George Brazile voted to approve incorporation into New Jersey due to high levels of unemployment within city limits at that time caused largely by an embargo against Cuba which had been put into effect by Mexican president Santa Anna days after Jackson took office During World War II much development occurred outside town boundaries with factories such as Ford Motor Company plant #9 located on Ridge Road just west of present-day Borough Hall while other businesses including Bethlehem Steel Works #2 (now called NorthJersey Motorsports) were located east side between Ridge Road and I-95 off exit 77B southbound during war years 1945 thru 1948 however all aspects ceased production shortly thereafter with closure date unknown . Thereafter business picked up again but village slowly lost its rural feel with increasing suburbanization throughout post-war era . On October 15th 2017 Facebook announced they will be selling all assets within Glenrock Township including building lots used for housing development over the past several decades
Glen Rock was once a thriving community that thrived on the production of lumber and other materials for shipbuilding. The community was founded in 1795 by John Glen, an early settler in the area. Glen Rock quickly became one of the most important communities in New Jersey due to its location, resources, and infrastructure. By 1824, Glen Rock had become a growing town with over 1,000 residents. However, the town's fortunes changed during the American Civil War when it became one of several towns in New Jersey that sent troops to help fight against the Confederate States of America. The town lost many of its residents during the war and ultimately fell victim to Reconstruction efforts. In 1865, Glen Rock was finally destroyed by fire after years of neglect.
