The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History in Glen Rock, New Jersey began on October 1st of 1945. The gift history was started by Colonel James A. Wetherbee who was the Commander of the 4th Bomb Wing at MacDill AFB. Colonel Wetherbee decided to send a small group of his unit's pilots and airmen to Japan as part of the first wave of American troops entering the war. On December 15th, 1945, Lieutenant General Curtis LeMay organized the first air show in Japan. The show was attended by many highranking officers from both America and Japan including Emperor Hirohito. The performance of the Japanese military band helped promote friendship between America and Japan during World War II. After World War II ended, Colonel Wetherbee decided to retire from service with the United States Air Force but he left behind a lasting legacy in gift history with his donation of two Spitfires to the Air National Guard Museum in Florida. This event is considered one of the most significant moments in Air National Guard history because it marked an end to World War II hostilities between America and Great Britain.

Glen Rock is a small town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Atlantic City metropolitan area. The name "Glen Rock" derived from a rock formation on the east side of the town, which was first named by George Washington in 1777 as part of his survey of this area. The name "Rocky Hill" was also given to the same location during this time period and may have been based on an observation by Benjamin Franklin that one side of Rocky Hill resembled a hill with a round top. In 1800, James Ewing built what is now known as White's Tavern on Main Street in Glen Rock and continued to serve as its landlord until 1825 when he sold it to John Fenton who renamed it JFenton's Tavern after himself. In 1830, Ebenezer Cooke opened Cooke's Brewery here and served as its landlord until 1875 when he sold it to Elias Howe who operated it until 1917 when it became known as Howe's Brewery again. In 1919, Pte Edward Mapplethorpe donated land for what is now Glen Rock High School which had been started as an all-girls school but became coeducational in 1926. In 1930, the New Jersey State Legislature passed legislation authorizing the erection of a state lyceum (later absorbed into Hunterdon Community College) in Glen Rock Township so that local students could attend college while their parents attended work or school outside the township limits. On February 28, 1933 – just three weeks before President Franklin D Roosevelt took office – Governor Herbert Lehman approved construction of Glenside High Schoolnaswest of Philadelphia and within easy reach of most residents in Morris Township because then-Governor Robert Moses had already authorized creation of Morristown High School there fifteen years earlier and planned to create Glenside too). On October 17th, 1951 – ten days after Senator Joseph McCarthy falsely announced plans to seek re-election against incumbent Dwight Eisenhower – local residents staged angry demonstrations outside Glenside High School holding signs such as "McCarthy Can't Stop Us Now", "No Nonsense at Glenside", and "Eisenhower Will Be impeached". Community members responded with nonviolent protests inside Glenside throughout November resulting in only two arrests; one for disorderly conduct and one for disrupting education proceedings. On December 5th McCarthy finally conceded defeat after conceding moral damage rather than electoral votes needed to win reelection over Eisenhower; however many people considered McCarthy's victory illegitimate due to his false accusations against fellow Republicans including White House Chief Counsel Jay Lovestone

1945 - The United States Air Force deployed the Boeing E-4B Skymaster for use in Operation Overlord. 1977 - The Lockheed C-117 Stratofortress was delivered to the USAF as part of the helicopter program, and became operational in 1978. 1983 - The McDonnell Douglas MQ-9 Reaper began operations with the USAF in 1984.
Glen Rock is a township in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 census, the township's population was 7,813 and its per capita income was $39,521. The town was founded on October 12, 1788 by Lieutenant Colonel John Smith and Captain James Armstrong as part of the Survey of New York Territory. It became a borough on December 4, 1841. On February 17, 1951, it merged with neighboring Edison Township to form what is now Monmouth County.[1] The first settler in Glen Rock was John Smith who arrived in 1788 from Rhode Island. He built a farmstead on the corner of Hempstead Avenue and Meetinghouse Road. By 1800 he had married Sarah Devenish and erected a house thereon which still stands today (now known as "Old Glen Rock"). Other early settlers included Captain James Armstrong who arrived in 1802 from Scotland; Samuel Sturtevant who settled in 1804; David Prentice who landed there in 1805; Job Tracey and his family who settled there in 1807; Nicholas Comstock settled there in 1811; Moses Davenport came overland from Ireland circa 1830-1835; Isaac Goodrich came overland from England about 1840-1845; Christopher Germann arrived here around 1850-1855; Daniel Guggenheim came here around 1860-1865. In 1836–37 Major General George Washington visited the area while on his way to battle at Philadelphian Heights near Philadelphia. While visiting points along the Passaic River he called at Glenrock where he inspected an earthwork used to guard an outpost located at that time about two miles northeast of present-day Glen Rock Station on Route 23A (later absorbed into I-95). The General felt favorably about this work done by local farmers under command of Brigadier General Nicholas Wright then marching southward through Monmouth County towards Trenton via Millville before reaching Philadelphia some fourteen miles distant Inscribed upon this earthwork were three large white letters: "GORDON'S FORTRESS." When asked by General Washington how this fortress had been constructed he replied "I do not know sir", signifying that he did not have information concerning its construction or purpose. A few weeks later while returning home down the same roadGeneral Washington again stopped at Glenrock for lunch being accompanied by Colonel Ebenezer Greene (of Princeton University) – one of only six men accompanying him across Long Island Sound that day – when they reached Fort Hamilton just beyond East Brunswick without encountering any opposition Later that year during American Civil War Battle of Saratoga Union forces led by Brigadier General Israel Putnam attacked Confederate forces entrenched within rifle pits east ofpresent day West Chester village off Interstate 95 opposite Camden NJ At 2pm Federal troops numbering several hundred surrounded Confederate positions with heavy artillery fire resulting finallyprising Confederate commander Rear Admiral Thomas Farragut ordered withdrawal but too late news reached Union forces camp prior to order being given and most Confederates were able to escape unopposed leaving behind more than twenty dead Federals plus numerous wounded Confederate soldiers including Generals Putnam himself and Robert Ewell At 5pm Federal troops withdrew after sustaining very high casualties - Union loss total approximately 350 killed/wounded/missing
Glen Rock was first settled in 1764 by the Dutch. The town was originally named "Haddonfield" and it was renamed "Glen Rock" in 1841 after General James Glen, a Scottish general who fought in the American Revolution. The population of Glen Rock increased rapidly during the 19th century, reaching over 10,000 by 1875. However, economic factors such as railroad construction and international trade caused rapid growth to halt during the early 20th century. By 1920, only 1,000 people remained in Glen Rock. During World War II, GlenRock became an important military airbase providing safe haven for Allied bombers flying over Nazi-occupied Europe. In 1945, the town lost its status as a city when it merged with nearby Paterson to form Paterson Township. After the warglow faded away, GlenRock began to experience steady decline until it reached its current low level of population in 2000.
