The USS Constitution Museum Foundation has offered trophy donations from various members of navy families since 1984 as part of their annual Navy Recognition Awards program which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to their branch of service over any given year or decade - examples include monetary donations or items such as cars or home appliances. Freehold is a town in Union County, New Jersey, United States. It is the second most populous town in Union County after Middletown and has a population of around 99,000 people as of the 2010 Census. The first freehold settlers were mentioned in a deed dated February 14, 1682, from William Penn to the Freehold Township Committee. The township was formed on March 15, 1714 from portions of Middlesex Township and Sussex Township. On November 4, 1834 it was consolidated with Union County. On July 1, 1909 Freehold became part of the new municipality of Paterson. In 1969 Freehold Borough merged into Rahway City because Rahway City had outgrown its boundaries. In 1984 it was re-established as an independent borough again with a population of over 10,000 people according to the 2010 Census
In 1764, the first settlers in what is now Freehold Township arrived from England. The township was named for General James Woodbury, who had been instrumental in driving the Native Americans out of New Jersey. The first courthouse was built in 1768 and it served as the county seat until 1802. The township's population grew rapidly during the 1800s, thanks to its location on the southern border of Middlesex County and its access to cheap land and education. The American Civil War caused a major change to Freehold Township. Most of Middlesex County broke away from the United States and formed a new country, Confederate States of America. Many residents in Freehold Township decided to stay with the United States, however, and many businesses continued to operate despite their government being at war. In 1881, Freehold Township became part of Union County when that county was created from parts of Middlesex and Union counties. During World War II, Freehold Township played an important role in providing munitions for the war effort. Over 1,000 people were employed manufacturing ammunition here between 1942-1945. After the war ended, many jobs went away as wartime production stopped but business managed to grow again thanks to increased demand from customers who no longer needed munitions but needed goods such as furniture or appliances
