The United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., offers a four-year undergraduate degree in naval science and engineering. The institution has been providing education for sailors since 1802. The first midshipmen were admitted to the academy in 1804. In 1861, during the American Civil War, the U.S. Navy was created when Congress approved the Union of America Act (13 U.S.C. 3111). The navy was established as an arm of the military with jurisdiction over all sea forces and navies on land and at sea; its members were called “ commissioned officers” or simply “officers” (U.S. Code § 710(a)). Naval officer candidates attend a three-month boarding school before their term begins at Annapolis, Md., aboard one of the navy's "large ships." Upon graduation from this program they are assigned to duty afloat with one of two fleets: active or reserve fleets (U.S. Code § 711(a)). A naval ensign is an enlisted member who wears only a blue uniform and retains his rank and pay while serving in special service units such as submarines, destroyer escorts, hunter-killer aircrafts, etc.; he does not wear a commission insignia on his clothing or badge like other enlisted members (U.S. Code § 712). Awards for heroism are given by both the Joint Chiefs of Staff and President George H W Bush after exceptional performance in combat (U S Code §§ 546 et seq.). Medals awarded by either branch may be worn by any naval officer regardless of branch affiliation; however, Army generals/commanders generally wear Distinguished Service Medal () while Navy captains typically wear oak leaf clusters() on their uniforms (U S Code §§ 502 et seq.). Awards presented at each fleet's annual command review include citations such as "For Valor" (), "For Gallantry" (), "For Bravery" (), "For Extraordinary Achievement" (), etc.) which are pinned onto ribbons around the necks of these Sailors who have meritoriously distinguished themselves ().

The ship served in the French and Indian War and during the American Revolution. On April 14, 1814, she blockaded Havana for three days with her cannons. In 1815, she supported General James Wilkinson's Expedition against Mexico. Afterward she served as flagship of Commodore John Farragut's squadron in the blockade of Cuba. On January 25, 1846, Constitution was decommissioned at Norfolk Naval Yard and stricken from the navy list effective February 1st.
Fort Lee is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,871 at the 2010 census. Fort Lee is located on the border of Middlesex and Union Counties. It is north of Newark, east of Elizabethtown and south of Paterson. The first Europeans to visit what would become Fort Lee were the French in 1664-1665 when they founded a trading post there as part of their Conquest of North America campaign. The Dutch also visited the area in 1664 but no permanent settlement was established until 1714 when Captain Cornelius Vermuyden erected a stockade at what is now known as Battery Park Boulevard and donated land for a military fortification. Newark became the capital of New Jersey in 1777 and Fort Lee was abandoned because it could not compete with Newark's growing city infrastructure. steamboats began docking at Battery Park Boulevard in 1837 which led to increased demand for goods brought downriver by waterway transportation and fortification became unnecessary. In 1853, the fortifications were sold to Robert Morris who used them as his plantation headquarters during his time as Governor of New Jersey from 1857-1859; however, they reverted back to government use after Robert Morris' death in 1861). In 1917, Fort Lee was reoccupied by American forces during World War I following Allied victories over Germany near Passaic River bridgehead west of Trenton. After being evacuated again due to German air raids that started on September 3rd, 1918 (the first daylight raid against an American city), many buildings inside Fort Lee still stand today including barracks #1 (now called Livingston Hall) and #2 (now known as Green Street barracks). These barracks are one example among many remnants from pre-war days that can be seen throughout Downtown Newark today include hand rails still visible leading up each story where feet once stood; service entrance door openings still intact with hinges; windowsills covered with newspapers to keep out enemy fire; well dug into earth behind building for protection against aerial bombing;RGHS Archives photo album: "Houses That Stay" Fort Lee Post Office Building Museum opened its doors on October 9th 2009 located right next door to old Battery Park Boulevard Barracks served during WWII when most post office activity took place inside those buildings while also housed within old Raymond Robinson Physical Plant which included two machine gun emplacements(one facing south across park towards Elizabethtown while other faced northeast towards Paterson). This museum provides insight into how postal service worked during those years both before electronic communication made it possible(1948)and after when telephone service arrived(1964).
