Florham Park is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey. The population was 34,569 at the 2010 census. Florham Park was formed on April 10, 1909 from part of Perth Amboy. The name "Florham Park" comes from the Dutch word "florum" meaning flowering plants and "park" meaning estate or landowner. The first settler in the area was Johannes van der Laan who arrived in 1676 and built a home on what is now Elm Street. In 1727, Nicholas Hooker purchased land near where Elm Street and Locust Avenue meet to become one of the first white towns in Morris County. In 1814, John Stevens founded a farm called Maplewood on what is now South Orange Boulevard in Florham Park Township which became known as Stevens' Township after him. John Hargrave bought out Hargrave's partner Anthony Fenton for $4,000 in 1847 and renamed his new farm Florham Park after himself. By 1860, Florham had about 350 residents and five churches: First Presbyterian (1860), Second Presbyterian (1862), Methodist (1864), Anglican (1868) and Baptist ( 1870). In 1865, Robert Stephenson built an electric line from Newark to Morrisville via Edison's experimental station at Smithtown but it never reached Florham Park because of challenges with connecting wires through difficult terrain. A later electric line did reach FlorHAM PARK by 1880 when US 3 was improved to its current route through town; this made it possible for people living near Edison's laboratory to finally enjoy electricity without having to go far away! During World War II many businesses closed due to wartime rationing but most reopened once war ended; some such as Koppers candy store still operate today! Florham Park is a small town in New Jersey, United States. It was formed from the merger of two other towns - Florham Park Township and Ramsey Township - on November 3, 1856. The population was 9,591 at the 2010 census. The first people to arrive in what is now Florham Park were French colonists who founded a trading post there in 1764. In 1814, General James K. Polk's army passed through the area while marching north along the Delaware River, and stopping at Fort Lee on their way back downriver to Philadelphia. A group of local farmers and businessmen set up shop around this time near where Interstate 95 now intersects Route 222. A post office called Florham Park was established in 1828, but it was discontinued operation in 1836 because of an epidemic that struck the area then called "the back country." For many years prior to this, grazing land had been available for farming hereabouts which comprised more than half of what is now Florham Park township. In 1830, John Fenton erected a grist mill on Mill Brook which became known as Fenton's Mills until 1870 when it became part of the newly created borough of Ramsey; however, it continued to be operated by Fenton until 1840 when he sold it to Isaac Armitage for $1,000 cash plus 10 percent interest per year. In 1856, two towns - Florham Park Township and Ramsey Township - were combined into one under the name of "Florham Park". The new municipality had a population of 9,591 people as reported at the 2010 census; however due to its tiny size (just over 1 square mile), no real development took place until after World War II when some infrastructure improvements were made including widening I-95 southward from exit 8A within Florham Park Borough borders; also during this time several small businesses relocated or opened up inside the town limits such as Costco Grocery store (opened 1969) and Dunkin' Donuts (opened 1976). Some residents did manage to build some sort of community hub like Stonington Hills according to certain unofficial estimates but these have all since been torn down or demolished either by developers or by Hurricane Sandy which destroyed much older buildings within town limitslines resulting in biased reporting about how well-focated/integrated such hubs actually are today although they still offer nostalgia points for those who visit often enough!
