Fairview is a borough in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Newark metropolitan area. The first European settlers in what would become Camden County were Dutch and English colonists who arrived in 1664. In 1714, the Treaty of Passaic resulted in the cession by Great Britain of all but parcels located east of Township Line 4 (now called Easton). These lands, plus some that had been ceded to Sweden under the terms of the 1723 Treaty of Stockholm were given to John Woolsey as part of his grant on February 1, 1724. In 1807, during the American Revolution, Patriot General Anthony Wayne's forces burned buildings throughout Camden County until they reached Fairview where he was born on September 10th that year. On December 12th 1820 while Passaic County was being formed from parts of Essex and Bergen counties it was passed by referendum to become a borough with its own government with George Washington as its first mayor and James Buchanan as its first vice mayor. On January 1st 1821 Fairview became a Borough when it joined with neighboring Southwark and Elizabethtown to form what would be known as "the Three Towns". On July 1st 1827 The Borough changed their name back toFairview after merging with other nearby municipalities which included Brickstown (January 3rd1829), Maynardville (February 5th1830), Easton (March 21st1831) and West Chesterfield Township on October 15th 1830 which closed out this process. From this merger date onwards Fairview has been known asFairview Borough subject to changes made by local governments within Mercer COUNTY such as Southwick Township which merged into Newark on April 14th 1951 then Edison township which merged into Caldwell on November 6th 1959 then Bridgeport Heights Borough which merged into Ridgewood on January 11th 1970 then finally Atlasia Twp.(April 22nd 1974). These changes have always followed an incremental approach so that each successive municipality consolidation did not result in any real change other than an increase in population size making sure no one municipality took over too much territory or lost too much population relative to their predecessor municipalities).

The name also stuck because it was an important stop on the old New Jersey Railroad. At one time, there were over 100 homes in Fairview Township alone. Many residents still live here today and contribute to its cultural heritage. In addition to its culture,FairVIEW has been an important place for education and business since its inception. Some of the most famous people who have lived or worked here include Grover Cleveland, Farmer George Washington Carver and Edison Electric Light Company president Charles Wickersham Sr.. The first people to live in what is now Fairview Township were the Lenape Indians. The township was named after Sir George Fairview, a British general who commanded the expedition that discovered and mapped the area in 1776. The first settler was Aaron Burr, who arrived in 1814. Fairview was incorporated as a town on February 14, 1868, from portions of Burlington Township. On January 1, 1954, it became an independent borough. On November 12 of that year, Fairview Station won approval from the New Jersey State Legislature to become a full-time community college with jurisdiction over all of its students and employees.
