Fair Lawn is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 17,567 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous settlement in Middlesex County and one of the three townships within the county. The other two are Newark and Elizabeth. The first Europeans to visit what is now Fair Lawn were French traders who arrived in 1609. They named it "Le Ville de Fair Lawn" after a fair they had attended there that year. In 1814, land speculation led to the founding of nearby Newark by Nicholas Moreau and Samuel Pierpont as part of an effort to improve transportation between New York City and Philadelphia through Paterson and Trenton. In 1832, Fair Lawn became part of Bergen Township when it was separated from Middlesex County. In 1908, its inhabitants voted to create a second township based on their desire for more democratic representation than would be available in Bergen Township which was then governed by a single Republican Party member appointed by Governor John D’Egmont Sr.. On April 15, 1909, this new township – called North Brunswick – was formed from parts of Fair Lawn and Northumberland Township with a population of 12,000 people; however only 3% of that number lived in Fair Lawn itself. This lack of growth lead to serious concerns about whether or not North Brunswick could handle all the growth coming from neighboring municipalities such as North Camden and East Brunswick which were both growing rapidly at the time but did not have similar concerns about how they would be able to keep up with village-level development envisioned for their townshires). On July 1, 2002, portions of north Brunswick (includingFair Lawn) merged into South Hackensack while still remaining within Middlesex County government under the name “North Brunswick Township” until January 1st 2006 when that merger also became effective with South Hackensack borough status effective immediately upon approval by both state legislators Anthony Rendon (D-Bergen) and Glenn Martin (D-Hackensack). On January 1st 2006 South Hackensack Borough ceased to exist entirely while portions including Fair lawn continued under jurisdiction of north BrunswickTownship until October 19th 2014 when those same portions merged back into north BrunswickTownship effective October 19th 2014 following passage by referendum even though no vote took place on annexing eastmondborough along with hatfield

Fair Lawn was a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It is located northeast of Newark and east of Paterson. The population was 3,706 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in Fair Lawn were Quakers who arrived in 1714 from Meetinghouse Hill in Pennsylvania. They built their first home on the present-day site of Easton High School. The next year, they erected a meeting house on what is now North Main Street. In 1718, they founded the township and adopted a constitution under which they elected a board of trustees to manage their affairs. The early years of Fair Lawn were difficult because it was isolated from other settlements by mountains and forests that formed the natural borders of Middlesex County. However, through hard work and determination, the community slowly grew and began to enjoy some advantages that others did not have: its location near major cities such as Newark and Paterson, its close access to water resources (due to its position on Hackensack Creek), and its easy access to transportation via roads such as Route 9A or Route 21A. During World War I, Fair Lawn played an important role in supporting Allied military efforts by providing goods and services needed by troops stationed there including food production;constructing housing for soldiers;and operating local shops serving troops throughout the war. After hostilities ended in 1918, many residents left for various reasons including jobs opportunities outside of New Jersey or retirement elsewhere in the United States. Some returned after the end of World War II but most remained until about 1990 when all but one withdrew due to decay within their communities infrastructure combined with declines in population growth rates across New Jersey overall).
