Fair Lawn, New Jersey is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 12,539 at the 2010 census. The center of Fair Lawn is located at (40.748461, -74.909024). The area now known as Fair Lawn was first settled by Dutch and English colonists in 1664. It became part of Orange County following the creation of that county in 1784. In 1814, Fair Lawn was incorporated as a township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. The township had a population of 921 during the 2010 Census. In 1916, portions of what are now Westwood and East Brunswick were annexed to Fair Lawn; this made it one-third larger than it had been before and increased its population to 14,853 by 2030.[1] As more residents moved into the town from outlying counties or villages within Middlesex County over time – particularly after Interstate 95 was built through much of the borough – Fair Lawn’s boundaries gradually expanded westward beyond East Brunswick Township until they reached Hackensack River Boulevard on the border with Lindenwald Township on Long Island City/Manhattan Beach Peninsula Borough on Long Island City proper. This annexation effectively ended that process and has resulted in what some have called “an open-air city” due to all of its residents living within walking distance of each other regardless of where they live on Earth.[2] As a result of these recent changes,Fair Lawn has long been considered one of most densely populated municipalities in North America,[3][4][5] with over 92 percent[6][7]of its citizens residing within 2 miles (3 km) or less thereof according to2010 Census estimates
When the United States entered World War I, it was not with a full military might behind it, but rather with a small army that consisted of only 3,000 soldiers. The war was fought primarily on the home front and in the air, and as such, much of the equipment used by American troops came from Britain. This limited number of troops also resulted in a significant selection process for gift giving during wartime. In 1917, Congress passed the National Defense Act which mandated that all Americans must buy food and munitions to help support the war effort. This raised eyebrows among friends and family who would have preferred they just donate their time or money to charity instead of contributing to an industry that was benefiting America at war’s expense. As wars continued to be fought overseas, however, more people began to turn out for national defense purposes. In 1919, Congress passed another law entitled “The National Defense Service Act” which authorized citizens to provide emotional support to military personnel through acts such as buying them flowers or sending them candy when they returned from deployment. Even though gifts became less necessary as technology improved and relationships between servicemen and civilians grew stronger, there is still a memory of soldiers receiving special gifts during wartime season (usually in late November). These are known as “warfare gifts” and typically include items such as books on military history or uniforms from previous campaigns
