The Englewood NationalGuard Museum is located in the heart of Englewood, New Jersey and opened its doors to the public on July 1, 2006. The museum is dedicated to celebrating the history of the national guard in Englewood and throughout New Jersey. The first national guard unit was raised in 1814 during the War of 1812. The unit was disbanded in 1865 due to lack of funding. However, a new unit was raised in 1881 and served with distinction until it was disbanded again in 1912 due to budget cuts. In 1916, the armory became operational and soon saw use as a training ground for local militias. In 1935, the armory became operational as a air force facility and housed fighters from both World Wars I and II. In 1950, it transitioned into an ammunition depot and remains that way today. In 1978, federal funds were available for the formation of a state militia under state law number 9609-A which provided for assignment of units statewide by state commandant general with responsibility for training local militias for purposes such as defense against terrorism or other emergencies). A battalion (later brigade) was organized at Headquarters Training School on December 15th 1978 under this authority with Major General Harry Wogan commanding It On November 4th 1979 another battalion (later brigade) arrived at HTS from Hackensack Armory where it had been Organized on October 25th 1977 . At its inception there were three brigades totaling 118 men including 3 tanks Brigade Headquarters 2nd Battalion 8th Regiment Infantry Regiment 2nd Battalion 5th Regiment Cavalry Squadron 1st Brigade Combat Team

Englewood, New Jersey is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 24,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Englewood Mill (now defunct) and Englewood Cemetery are located in the town. Other notable landmarks include the Engelwood Golf Course and Englewood High School; both were built in 1927. Englewood is home to several large companies such as Pfizer, IBM and Verizon Communications. In recent years, it has become a center for gay rights activism with its local chapter of the Human Rights Campaign having been founded there in 1984. Founded by Nicholas-Jacques Conte on November 12, 1720 as "Newtown", ENGLEWOOD was renamed after Colonel George Washington's plantation at Newtown Creek near Princeton Junction where he had settled about 1680 AD when he became General Washington's aide de camp during his military campaigns against the French and their Indian allies in North America. The area now comprising ENGLEWOOD was first settled by Europeans around what is now called Montclair and then Middletown Township before becoming part of Middlesex County on January 1, 1814 following the creation of that county from portions of Hunterdon County and Monmouthshire County. On December 2nd of that year, Colonel John Armstrong erected upon an extensive piece of high ground within present day MANHATTAN AVENUE block 6 & 7 which lay east & south lie lot 23 on said premises three substantial buildings including a mill wheelwright’s shop aforesaid used by him heretofore much esteemed& one house generally inhabited by his family excepting Captains James Cook who resided elsewhere & Dr Samuel Sherer this article being dated December 3rd 1814 In 1835 William Ladd purchased lot 3/4 north side of Manning Avenue from Captain James Cook for $1125 plus interest On May 9th 1857 WILLIAM LADD sold his interest in THE NEWMAN MILLS to Cornelius Vanderbilt for $4000 !! This event marked not only one million dollar milestone for ENGLEWOOD but also raised money for many local charities including those still active today like JDRF (John D Rockefeller Foundation). This property remained under Vandyke ownership until 1908 when it passed through his son Cornelius Vanderbilt II's hands to his grandson Adolphus Vanderbilthe who operated it until 1920 when it became part of RCA Victor Records Corporation whose president Harry Herrman donated it to be used as one half mile long side street named PEPPERMANDELA between Westside Boulevard & Ridgemont Avenue known today as HEARD STREET

The National Guard was first activated on July 1, 1775, to help provide security for the newly formed United States of America during the American Revolution. The National Guard has played an important role in every US election since 1948 and currently provides 3 percent of the country's full-time military forces. Since its activation as a national guard force, the National Guard has participated in numerous campaigns and deployments including World War II; Operation Iraqi Freedom; Operation Enduring Freedom; and Hurricane Katrina. In total, more than 2 million people have served in the National Guard since it became a Federal Reserve arm on December 15, 1996. Today, there are over 350 different organizations that participate in the National Guard. These organizations include units from all 50 states as well as Puerto Rico and Guam. There is also a Army Reserve Component which consists of Regular Army troops who are called up for short periods to supplement active duty troops while their unit is training or deployed overseas.

Englewood is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,874 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York metropolitan area. The first Englewood residents were Dutch and English settlers who arrived on the North American continent in 1684. They named their town after Engelbertus Vasa (1626-94), king of Sweden and Norway, who had travelled to America in 1642 as an explorer and found that it was uninhabited. The early Englewood citizens were farmers and stock breeders who raised pigs, horses, cows, sheep, chickens and rats for food. In 1834, Abraham Lincoln was born in Whatcom Township near Englewood. He moved to Englewood when he was two years old with his family from Illinois to escape southern slavery. After attending public schools here until 1838 he worked as a machinist for many years before going into politics full time in 1849 as a delegate to the Skaneateles Convention on Slavery Abolitionism. In 1862 he became Mayor of Hoboken; four years later he ran for Congress but lost at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago to Salmon Peevey. He returned to Hoboken for two terms as mayor before running for Ulysses S Grant’s second term in 1868 and losing by only 1% of the vote against John Sherman—the first Republican presidential nominee from New Jersey since 1840. He died at home on November 4th 1870 at age 83 after a long and successful political career which spanned over 50 years including service as Mayor of Hoboken (1862-68), Congressman from New Jersey (1868-72), Secretary of War under Ulysses S Grant (1873-77) and President James K Polk (1885-89). One year after his death his wife also died suddenly leaving three children: one son became an advertising executive while another son married briefly but divorced; both sons are now deceased too however one daughter still lives in NJ with her husband today
