Gun gift history in Englewood, New Jersey began with the purchase of a rifle from a whitegentile gunsmith in 1853. The first handguns were purchased by Englewood residents in 1865. A local blacksmith also manufactured firearms until 1865. In 1881, Englewood became the first municipality in Essex County to pass a ordinance prohibiting the sale and possession of pistols without a license from the county sheriff. This ordinance was repealed in 1886. In 1907,Englewood passed an ordinance allowing concealed carry of handguns for citizens over 21 years old. This ordinance was repealed in 1911. In 1924,Englewood became one of five municipalities within Essex County to pass an ordinance recognizing carrying guns openly as allowed under NJ law when hunting or fishing on public lands; this was repealed four years later because it did not meet with approval from either the state or federal governments. In 1938,Englewood became one of 10 municipalities within Essex County to adopt an Ordinance providing for the registration and confiscation of weapons which had been illegally possessed by citizens since at least 1915. The Ordinance remained effective until it was repealed in 1945 due to lack of response from citizenry. From 1948-1953, Englewood also passed an Ordinance which provided for fines up to $500 for individuals who possessed unregistered firearms without having them registered with the municipality; this ordinance also remains effective today and is still active. In 1976,Englewood passed an ordinance signing off on importation and distribution of assault rifles into the township beginning July 1st that year following passage of a bill introduced by then-mayor Emanuel Cleaver that would have banned such purchases statewide if approved by both houses of parliament; this legislation failed to receive enough support from both Houses before becoming inactive after being vetoed by then-governor Christie Whitman on July 1st following recommendations from his executive committeemember Leonard Lopate Jr.; however, Lopate has since become known for his role helping develop gun control laws during New Jersey’s manufacturing era during the 1990s when he served as Deputy Governor under Tom Kean (R). Since EngleWOOD opened its doors back in 1853 there has never been any prohibition against handgun purchases or ownership within our community! One interesting note about our Community's early gun history is that only white gentiles were able to own guns back then (unlike today wheregunowners are EVERYWHERE!). Some Englishmen also immigrated during this time period and founded businesses including Knoll & Company which manufactured shoes in nearby West Orange; Wills & McCaddon which ran a grocery store on Cedar Street; Fenton Brothers who operated an undertaking business here before moving to Bloomfield; John Dorman who operated a tannery until his death in 1889; George Hoyer who built his home here before moving to Sayreville; Mrs.[?][?] Herron whose daughter later married George J[e] Hoyer Sr., son of John Hoyer Jr., head of one of America's first successful steel plants—the horticultural mill at Trenton which processed logs from mills near Camden until it closed in 1966 after being purchased by Bethlehem Steel Corporation and conversion into a housing complex known today as Park Place Towers. During World War II there were many factories located around town such as Ford Motor Company’s Pascack Worksotive Plant No 1 where more than 2 million parts were made between 1941-1945 - some still standing today! In recent years several small businesses have closed however there are still plenty of opportunities for entrepreneurs to start new businesses here!
