In 1978, Engelwood City Council voted to change their zoning regulations to allow for cafes and restaurants within blocks of each other so that people living near each other could enjoy fresh roast coffee together without having to go far away to get it. The first Starbucks location outside of Englewood opened up on Cherry Hill Road just north of Interstate 95 in 1980. This location became known as Starbucks Englewood East and continued serving customers until 1999 when they moved their entire store inside the new Prudential Center complex along I-95 southbound lanes between South Point Boulevard and North Avenue.

Englewood is a borough in Jersey City, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY–NJ-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Englewood is located on the Newark Bay waterfront and includes the neighborhoods of Englewood North, Englewood South, and Englewood East. The firstEnglewood settlement was founded in 1814 by Nicholas & Maria Engelbrecht from Prussia as an agricultural town on what is now Park Avenue in what is now North Englewood. In 1824, John Sutherlin bought land adjacent to what is now Englewood South from Nicholas Engelbrecht and set about developing it into a town with a wharf and commercial district. By 1827 there were four blocks of buildings erected: one north of Market Street (now Clinton Boulevard), two east of Broad Street (now George Washington Boulevard), one south of Market Street (now Girdershire Boulevard), and one west of Broad Street (now Atlantic Avenue). In 1840 John Sutherlin's son Augustus built his house on the site of his father's old wharf warehouse on Broad Street near where Girdershire Boulevard meets Atlantic Avenue to become known as "Sutherlin Heights". In 1865 Augustus Sutherlin sold his house to Ebenezer Hylan for $10 per acre which made him owner/developer thereof until 1922 when he donated it to Rutgers University for use as a research station during World War II. In 1870 Anthony Biddle organized five men who had purchased 1/3 interest in the Newark Rail Road Company from Governor George Washington following its purchase from Andrew Johnson that same year for $2 million dollars – making them railway entrepreneurs –into a new company called The Newark Railroad Company Limited with 3 miles long main line extending thence to Paterson via Trenton Junction; this subsidiary became known as The Jersey Central Railway or JCR after its acquisition by General Electric in 1915. On 5 March 1870 Anthony Biddle died intestate at age 50 while travelling en route from Philadelphia to Newark; three years later his widow Sabrina married Samuel Morse who took over control of JCR through hermarriage to him on 10 October 1872 effective date also listed as 5 March 1870 which made Sabrina Morse Biddle 2nd wife and co-founder with her husband according to their wills both dated 25 October 1912 however without any documentary evidence these dates have been accepted by some researchers including myself although they may be erroneous hence my designation 3rd wife instead given that no other sources clearly identify Sabrina Morse Biddle alias Sabrina Hackett de facto second wife during this period therefore I am using this designation for convenience sake only . By 1890 JCR operated 9 branches: 4 northward along Route 22 from Paterson via Bound Brook Township thenParamus through Edison Township then Bergen County finally Hackensack County branches all reaching markets except one at Ridgewood where it connected with NJ Transit’s Hoboken Terminal before terminating at Weehawken . JCR increased freight traffic due primarily to Prohibition but by 1920 most lines were retired save #1 which became NJ TRANSIT'sEPARKLINE branch serving Elizabethtown Station until 1964 when it shifted terminals south across river into Harrisonburg Station becoming part of EASTON STATION network having servedaugusta since 1916 formerly PATERSON STATION . NJ TRANSIT abandoned EPARKLINE branch service passenger trains leaving Elizabethtown Station replaced by RUTgers Uptown Line services providing more efficient public transportation access especially useful during bad weather conditions when bus service becomes unavailable . On 30 November 1968 all passengers departing Elizabethtown Stations must transfer at Harrisonburg Station regardless of origin or destination turning off RUTgers Uptown Line service at HarrisonburgStation no longer allowing direct travel betweeen stations .
