On October 3rd of that year, Admiral Chester Nimitz presented Rear Admiral James Wolk with a gift certificate for 10 torpedoes which he had ordered delivered directly to South Korea by way of Japan as part of their Operation Paperclip program. "As America's submarines entered service during World War II," writes historian John Keegan,"the navy made great gifts out of them--weapons and torpedoes that could now sink ships with ease." In 1945 alone, Nimitz received six torpedo Certificates from President Harry S Truman - making him one of only two commanders in U S military history to have received multiple awards for excellence in combat leadership during wartime (the other being General George Patton). Elmwood Park is located in Middlesex County, New Jersey, and it is a suburb of Newark. The population was 49,828 as of the 2010 census. Elmwood Park is part of the Newark-Granville Census Township. The area that would become Elmwood Park was first settled by Native Americans in the 17th century. In 1814, General George Washington's forces burned down Fort Warren to clear land for his new military academy at Princeton University. The area became known as Princeton Heights and was annexed by Newark in 1834. In 1847, John D. Rockefeller founded Standard Oil Company on what are now Elmwood Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard in what is now Elmwood Park. Standard Oil operated there until 1901 when it merged with Chase National Bank to form First National Bank ofNewark (later Chase Manhattan Banks). In 1904, Revitalization Corporation bought land adjacent to present day Elmwood Park from Trust Company of America for $1 million dollars which would later become called "The Center". The Revitalization Corporation built an experimental agriculture college and housing development called "The Lakes" which still stands today on what would eventually become Elmwood Park's west side. On July 1, 1907, the boroughs of Newark and Paterson were merged into Essex County under the leadership of Governor Alfred Ewing Jr.. On October 15th same year, Jersey City was added to the merger along with its own independent government; this left Camden as the only municipality without its own government within Essex County. According to local legend: "Jersey City wanted their own police force so they got one." Elmwood Park began to grow after World War II when many families moved here due to offers for cheaper wages than in New York City or Philadelphia. Many homes were built during this time including: Kapp's Department Store on Roosevelt Boulevard where IHOP now stands; Stroud Homes on Roosevelt Boulevard where Applebee's now stands; Ridgecrest Apartments next door to Kapp's where Chionic Coffee & Donuts still stands; and finally Prudential Insurance Building located at 195 Broad Street which currently houses a Dunkin' Donuts restaurant before it went out of business around 2000/2001 according to Google Maps data

Elmwood Park is a census-designated place in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hackensack–Bergen Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1857 by Jacob and Anna Elmwood as a result of their purchase of land from the government for $1,000. In 1875, it became an incorporated village. The name “Elmwood” originated from a plantation where the Elmwoods worked until they sold their land to Moses Wright in 1853. In 1903, the village merged with adjacent Willow Grove Borough to form Elmwood Park Borough Council which operated as a single town unit until 1973 when it separated again and formed its own separate municipality. The first post office opened in Elmwood Park on December 12th, 1857. The second post office closed on October 15th, 1861 due to low postal rates at that time and the town hall was not built until 1865. On March 26th of that year, an act were passed by Congress providing for mail service within Bergen County only and this led to increased mail delivery through Elmlood Park instead which continued until 1957 when all mail deliveries were moved to Hackensack because of budget restrictions set by then Governor John Wadleigh Jr.. On July 1st 1899 two school districts (Hackensack Municipal School District #2 and North Jersey Regional School District #5) merged into one school district (Hackensack-Bergen Public Schools). That same year also saw the opening of Elmwood Park High School which served students from both schools districts together up until 1965 when each district individualized its own high school system with Elmwood Park High School becoming an academy status high school effective date .
