Lee's forces located near Elizabethtown Heights using artillery from Fort Mercer (now known as Old Bridge Park). North Carolina troops surrounded Grant's force while he made his advance up York Road towards Elizabethtown Heights; after arriving within cannon range of Confederate positions he ordered his artillery to fire into the woods nearElizabethtown Heights - this action resulted in many fatalities for both sides including Generals Grant and Lee who were fatally wounded respectively In 1916-1917 an effort was made to rename all small towns along the Delaware River after Ulysses S. Grant due to his role as Commanding General at Appomattox Court House when that county fell to Confederate Forces on April 10th 1865 following the surrender of Abraham Lincoln
