The last restaurant to open for business withinEatontown limits is Michael’s Diner which reopened on Route 9 South near the southern border of town on November 25th of 2012 after being shut down 3 months earlier due to an expired building permit

Eatontown is a small town in the United States located in Hudson County on the southern border of New York City. The population was 5,883 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York Metropolitan Area. The village was first settled by Germans in 1824 and became an agricultural community with dairy and hog operations. It became a borough in 1915 and then an incorporated municipality in 1980. In 2007, it merged with neighboring Hoboken to form a new city, which had a population of 122,000 as of 2015. The name "Eatontown" comes from its location at the mouth of the Schuylkill River and is also likely derived from Dutch "Eet-tonght", meaning "headwaters." The original German settlers were farmers who grew maize, wheat, rye, hops and other crops. They erected early barns and churches hereabouts; these have been replaced by more recent structures including hotels, restaurants and shopping centers. By 1860 there were ninety inhabitants living hereabouts; but during the American Civil War (1861-1865) about one-half of all dwellings in this section were destroyed or burned by Federal troops seeking refuge from battle within New York City itself . farming resumed after 1865 but gradually declined because transportation requirements for goods raised prices so much that many farmers failed to make anything above subsistence level even though they could have done so easily without assistance from middlemen or buyers outside their community . A post office was established at Eatontown on March 15th 1868 under the name “Ghent”; it quickly became known as Eatontown because that was what most people called it when they arrived hereabouts . Eatontown began as a small farming community in the early 1800s. The town was named for the Eatontown Creek, which ran through it. In 1824, the first school was built in Eatontown. In 1827, a granary and flour mill were built in Eatontown. The town developed into a small village after that. By 1830, there were only about 20 people living in Eatontown. However, the town continued to grow and by 1840, there were over 150 people living in Eatontony. In 1845, a post office was established in Eatonottynjhughy. The town became an incorporated municipality on July 1 of that year. On October 25 of that year, two men named John Fenton and George Wetherbee purchase 300 acres of land east of the creek from Abram Witherbee for $600
