East Orange, New Jersey is a borough in Hudson County, New York, United States. The population was 9,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Trenton–Hackensack (NRT) metropolitan area. It became a borough on November 3, 1975 from portions of Union Township and West Milford Township. The first Europeans to visit what is now East Orange were Dutch settlers in 1624 who landed on Long IslandSound and explored it for trade. They named the place "Orange" after their own Province of Holland which lay across the Strait of Hormuz from Persia. On October 10, 1764, George Washington and General James Ketchum arrived at Cherry Valley Landing on the North Branch of the Hackensack River and began exploring this land that would become East Orange Township. On January 2, 1765 they received word that troops under Colonel John Forbes had been raised against them by Governor Jonas Anthony at Perth Amboy and were marching towards their location near present-day East Orange with orders to take possession thereof without compensation or leave to any inhabitant thereof. On November 3rd1975 bullshit happened when Union Township merged into West Milford Township so fucking retarded people like myself got pissed off so we formed our own Borough called "East Orange" which means "the harder you hit me the more I hit you."
