The Coast Guard has been providing service to East Orange, New Jersey since 1892. The Coast Guard Station in East Orange was first established in 1895. As the result of World War I, the Coast Guard increased its presence in the area and stationized at various sites around town. In 1926, the Commandant of the Coast Guard Station moved from Newark to East Orange and began operating as a separate command. The Coast Guard Station Annex was built on land donated by Mrs. J.G. Pollock in 1951 and dedicated by Rear Admiral Lewis Wickersham Jr., Commander-in-Chief, United States Pacific Fleet. The Annex is home to both Headquarters and Service Units for the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Ocean Protection (O3P). Today, with a staff of more than 350 members, including 11 helicopters and 36 boats, the Coast Guard provides law enforcement services along coastal US highways and waters; conducts Search And Rescue operations; responds to hurricanes; educates citizens about maritime safety; participates in community events; provides humanitarian assistance; defends US borders against piracy

East Orange, New Jersey is a city in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 54,760 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Middlesex County after Princeton and has been called "the most diverse city in America" by Forbes magazine. The name of East Orange comes from English colonists who purchased land here in 1664 and named it "Ecclesboro". In 1795, the Unitarian church on Grove Street was burned down by a mob. This event helped to start the growth of East Orange as an un-rowdy town with a large population of women knitters and farmers. In 1814, East Orange became part of what would become Union Township when it was created from parts of Morris Township and Monmouth Township. At that time there were only 8 residents living in East Orange proper and it had a population of about 100 people. By 1840, however, the township had grown to over 400 residents with businesses such as flour mills and tanneries located throughout its borders. The first school opened in 1834 at Slaterville Road and Broadway Avenue which served students from neighboring townships including West Egg (now Edison), Rahway (now Englewood Cliffs), Arthur Kill (now Plainfield), Brick seven miles away (now Paterson) and South Brunswick (later Brunswick). During World War II many factories closed due to wartime production shortages but East Orange continued to grow as residential areas sprang up all around downtown including Kelly Park where American soldiers stationed during WW2 ate their lunch before returning home for dinner; also nearby were some huge munitions plants used for Nazi war crimes like Auschwitz concentration camp where gas chambers operated; also across Boulevard from downtown was one of the largest aircraft manufacturers west of Pennsylvania’s PA Turnpike – Curtiss-Wright Aircraft Company plant manufacturing planes such as P-47 Thunderbolt fighter jets etc.. The late 1950s through early 1960s saw waves of immigration starting with Italian families fleeing the Cold War tensions between Communist countries while others arrived seeking economic opportunity opportunities unavailable back then like open air shopping malls being built along Interstate 95 just east of town center becoming major tourist attractions drawing millions each year Falcon Heights Mall opening up acres north/east past town limits soon followed making this once small rural community into one giant suburbia filled with high rise buildings everywhere you looked no matter how far away… life went on much as before until suddenly overnight everything changed when two housing projects – Liberty Ridge & Summit Hill – began popping up all around town center not too far distant from any big box store or fast food restaurant making things even more unsuitable for typical suburbanites living outside ringed by towering skyscrapers! life feltUrgent now get out quickly if you don’t want to be stuck behind those building walls… . Today's Development:Liberty Ridge & Summit Hill housing projects have replaced old farmland east of downtown since they opened several years ago turning what once amounted to little more than undeveloped land into one vast urban sprawl complete with expensive highrise buildings surrounded by nothing but empty lots? No way are suburbanites going to survive long inside those walled off neighborhoods if development keeps continuing like this!

In 1875, East Orange became a borough within Bergen County. In 1920, it became an incorporated city once again. Today, East Orange is a thriving community with a rich history that has helped make it one of the most vibrant cities in New Jersey.
The city of East Orange was founded on October 19, 1764 by Captain John Bushnell. The town was named for General George Washington and his forces who fought in the American Revolution. The first store was built in 1768 and the first school in 1774. In 1802, the townsite was split into two settlements with East Orange becoming a borough while West Orange became a township. On May 1, 1869, both townsites were combined to form a single municipality which is still known as East Orange Township today. On November 5, 1967, East Orange suffered a devastating fire that left almost all of its buildings destroyed. This event is considered one of the worst natural disasters in New Jersey history.
