Dumont, New Jersey is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,569 at the 2010 census. Dumont is one of the most historical coastal towns in America and its history dates back to 1795 when it was part of the Township of Princeton. In 1838, Dumont became part of the newly formed township of Atlantic City and in 1860 it became a borough. On May 2, 1915, Dumont merged with adjacent Boroughs Beachwood and Avalon to form a new borough called Oceanport which included all of present-day Sussex County as well as portions of Monmouth County. As Oceanport grew larger it referendumly petitioned for full city status on December 3, 1932 but this request was denied by then Mayor James A. Fitzpatrick who felt that Oceanport would not be able to maintain its economic vitality without municipal services such as police and fire protection which would come from Dumont's neighboring municipalities. AfterOceanport lost its city status on December 3, 1932 it petitioned for annexation by Dumont but this also metwith opposition from some residents who felt that their community had been unfairly taken away from them while others believed that annexation would have given Oceanport more say in how its own affairs were conducted. Ultimately on November 7th, 1934 an ordinance was passed granting oceanport full city rights with responsibility for all aspects of city government including Police Department and Fire Department while still retaining certain vestiges of Borough autonomy such as zoning regulations and budgeting procedures

Dumont is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,852 at the 2010 census. Dumont is located on the Delaware River between Trenton and Camden. It is bordered by Bedminster to the northwest, Clifton to the northeast, and East Orange to the southeast. The village of Dumont was incorporated in 1792 as part of an area that later became Morris Township. The name "Dumont" originated with French traders who called it "Du-Mont". When English settlers arrived in what is now Morris County in 1683 they named the land after Sir William Dumont, 1st Baronet (1646-1714), one of their original grantees from England. In 1838, when Morristown became a borough, Dumont residents voted to secede from township status and become a separate community known as Dumont Heights. The first post office was established in 1812; it changed its name to Morristown in 1851. The first mills were built here in 1837 by Anthony Luddenstrom; these mills produced flour for local marketplaces and also made cheese for export. A rail line was built through Dumont between Camden and Trenton in 1881 which led to increased production and jobs for locals; however, passenger service stopped operations two years later due to budget cuts by then-Governor Woodrow Wilson. In 1921, a group of local businessmen formed theMorris Manufacturing Company which began producing radios and other electronics products throughout New Jersey including products made here such as AM radio station WPVI (channel 11). This company continued until 1985 when it merged with Radio Shack Incorporated becoming one of America's largest electronic retail stores with over 600 locations worldwide including Dudgeon store located on Main Street across from Parsippany High School where employees still work today manufacturing consumer electronics products such as cell phones or digital cameras

Dumont was an early township in Ocean County, New Jersey, located on the eastern shore of Long Island. The community was founded by Nicholas Dumont and others in 1814. It became a borough in 1868 and a city in 1903. The first settler to arrive in what is now Dumont was Nicholas Dumont, who arrived from Holland with his family in 1814. He built a cabin on the edge of present-day Route 9A, about one mile east of the present day intersection of Route 9A and Broadway Road. Nicholas' grandson, Samuel Dumont (1798-1875), acquired additional land and built a house on what is now Broadway Road. In 1824, John Trench purchased land west of Broadway from Samuel Dumont for $1/acre (2 ft 3 ins to 4 ft 8 ins). In 1830, he sold this property to David Elliott for $2/acre (4 ft 2 ins to 5 ft 6ins). In 1830-31, John Trench leased land east of current dayRoute 9A from David Elliott for 50 years at $3/acre (8 ft 2ins to 10 ft 6ins). In 1840, George Hahn bought 640 acres northwest of where Erie Avenue meets Boulevard Avenue from John Trench for $5 per acre (20 yd² to 30 yd²). Hahn divided this land into two tracts and sold one tract to Abraham Fenton for $10 per acre (40 yd² to 60 yd²) while retaining ownership of the other tract which he donated back to John Trench as part of a deed dated October 12th, 1840. On November 20th 1840 - just four days after receiving Abraham Fenton's donation -John Trench filed a plat with the Ocean County Government claiming that he had conveyed 320 acres adjacent today's Borough limits including all or part of each lot given by Abraham Fenton totaling 1120 acres +/- comprising also 400 acres within our present boundaries! This would give usBurns Township today! Dumont was a town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 12,050 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Garden State and is located on the southern edge of Newark. The first settler in Dumont Township was George Williams who arrived in 1795. Dumont had a post office from 1812 to 1835; it changed its name to Newark in 1836. In 1919, Dumont became one of twenty townships within Monmouth County when it was created from parts of Atlantic and Easton Townships. It remained part of Monmouth County until 1970, when it became a separate borough pursuant to an act passed by the New Jersey Legislature. Borough status for Dumont expired on April 1, 1975.
