Dumont, New Jersey is a small town in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 8,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hackensack metropolitan area. Dumont is one of the oldest settlements in Bergen County and was first settled by Germans in 1795. The name "Dumont" comes from Dutch (d'uimont) meaning "hillock." The township was formed on November 3, 1847, from parts of Teaneck and Caldwell townships. On December 1, 1849, it was renamed for General James H. Dumount who had been mortally wounded at Monmouth Bridge during the Mexican-American War and who died two days later at his home in Dumont Township. Dumont began to industrialize in the early 20th century with construction of a flour mill and sawmill which became Dumont Manufacturing Company (later Jardine-Hull Corporation). The company manufactured fishing nets and other products from 1902 until its sale to Bethlehem Steel Corporation in 1946. In 1916–1917 an Automobile Assembly Plant (later GM plants) was built adjacent to Dumont High School which produced Chevrolet Corvettes for American automakers Ford Motor Company and Chrysler sponsored events at Willowbrook Race Track including the Indianapolis 500 where these cars were raced against European models fielded by Alfa Romeo and Ferrari

Dumont coffee started in 1887 as a small grocery store on the corner of Pearl and West Broad Streets. In 1912, Dumont Coffee moved to its current location on New Street. The store continued to operate until it closed in 1978.
Dumont is a borough in New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,871 at the 2010 census. Dumont is located in Essex County. Dumont was founded on November 10, 1777, by Loyalists from New York who fled to the area during the American Revolution. It became a township on April 12, 1824. On January 1, 1881, it became a borough and was reincorporated as such on March 14 of that year. Borough officials declared December 7th as "Dumont Day" in commemoration of this event. The borough is named after General James Dumont (1727-1802), who fought against the British in North America during the Revolution and later served as an officer under George Washington. The first settler in what is now Dumont was John Doherty (1759-1841). He built a house on what is now Elm Street in 1813; his son John Pugh Doherty (1800-1862) followed suit two years later and erected a frame house on what is now Main Street. In 1828 Philip Atherton purchased land east of present day Elm Street from John Doherty for $1,000 cash and donated it to the township for use as its commons or open space. This initial donation remains one of Dumont's most visible landmarks today - Atherton Park covers . Other early settlers include Richard Ives (died 1800), Isaac Hodgson (died 1812), Nicholas Cookseye (baptized 1779), Elijah Copley (died 1830) and Jeremiah Skinner (1781-1865). In 1838 local resident Edward Townsend bought 155 acres near wherepresent day Elm Street meets Main Street for $5 per acre from Nicholas Cookseye – making him one of the earliest landowners within town limits! Townsend would later donate an additional 100 acres to the township including much of today's Atherton Park area – making him one of the most significant donors ever to our community! The development that began around this time included several stores and homes along present day ElmStreet/Main Streets; these businesses are still extant today with some remaining inside Dumont Borough borders today while others have been moved into neighboring municipalities over time due to their SHOPPING convenience! According to History NJ: “Township officials believed that if they could keep all these businesses open long term they would make more money than if they closed them down” which may account for why many popular merchants like Macy’s continue to operate out of town even though their physical store locations have changed hands multiple times throughout history! There were also several churches established here at this time including Bethel Chapel Church (#2), Presbyterian Church Of America (#3) – which still stands today – Anthony Baptist Church (#4) & First Reformed Dutch church #5 were among early congregations organized within our boundaries… Most importantly however….the large family farms surrounding us allowed us to grow food without havingto leave our homes!!! Today many people believe that keeping those small family farms intact has played an important rolein maintaining our unique culture & identity within our municipality!"

In 1901, when Starbucks opened its first store in Seattle – one of history’s earliest commercial operations – coffee became an international commodity enjoyed by everyone on Earth!
The history of coffee begins with the early Egyptians, who drank a type of roasted bean that was ground up and used in their morning tea. The Sumerians were also known to drink coffee. Coffee beans were brought to India by traders in the third millennium BC. Muslim traders took coffee back to Arabia in the eighth century AD. In 1547, Portuguese sailors discovered and traded cocoa beans with India, which led to the discovery of java (cocoa) beans. Java island was ruled by the Dutch from 1602 until 1813 when they ceded it to Britain. From there, coffee was smuggled back into Holland where it continued being grown and consumed clandestinely until 1795 when regulations against smuggling allowed Dutch traders to import large quantities of coffee. Coffee began being exported as commodities such as flour, sugar and tobacco in the eighteenth century. The first permanent Colombian Javapeño plantation was established in 1875 near Cartagena de Indias on Colombia’s Antioquia Department.
Dumont is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 18,521. The name Dumont comes from the French word "dune" meaning "hill." The first European to visit Dumont was Giovanni da Verrazzano on October 14, 1524. He named it for the Marquis de Montmorency who had been sent by France to explore North America. In 1684, Anthony Dumont erected a mill on Whatcom Creek and built a gristmill on the Hackensack River which still stands today. Dumont's rich agricultural history began with land grants from Governor George Monmouth in 1724 and continued through to the early 19th century when it became an agricultural co-operative society with thirty-six partners. A number of mills and other businesses were established in Dumont during this time including Jardine Bros., Goudreau & Co., LaCrosse Packers and Weyerhaeuser Company. In 1814, John Stevens founded Stevens Mills at what is now Dumont Avenue and Clinton Street near what is now City Hall; this became one of the largest cotton textile mills in America. The business thrived until 1938 when it closed due to competition from abroad. In 1857, Drury Norcross opened hisNorcross Pharmacy at present day State Street and Clinton Avenue which became one of NJ's most successful drugstores; Norcross died in 1918 after years of leadership at the store. In 1896, John Waddell opened Waddell Drug Store at present day Main Street opposite City Hall which soon became one of Newark's leading grocery stores; Waddell passed away in 1978 after many years of success at his store. In 1915/16 Elisha Cole organized Eastern Hudson Railroad which served as an important transportation link between Newark Liberty International Airport and Cherry Hill Station; Cole died suddenly ten days prior to its opening (he had been trying to get permission from city officials to build a terminal). From 1916 until 1955 all trains coming into or going out of Newark stopped at Cherry Hill Station while goods were unloaded onto local buses which took them back into town for storage before being transported again next morning on the train return trip; this service known as “the wagons” ended when passengerrail facilities were built near Terminal 4 (now Prudential Center) in 1961]. On July 30th 1905 Mr./Mrs Howard Weems moved their home from Jersey City to make way for construction of I-95 across Route 66 just outside Dumont Borough boundaries - they lived there until their death 10 years later! On November 3rd 1911 Mrs./Dr Hilda Weems gave birth to their third son Howard Augustus Weems who would go on become Mayor of Newark two decades later!
