The military has a long and proud history in Dover, New Jersey. The town was founded by Dutch settlers in 1664 as a small trading post on the Delaware River. In 1776, during the American Revolution, Dover sided with the British and adopted the Royal Uniform of Prince George. After the revolution, the town turned to Patriotism and became a key part of the Underground Railroad. The first large-scale military conflict in Dover occurred during World War I when troops from both nations fought near Billy Budds Point on Long Island. The battle resulted in no injuries but severe damage to civilian property. Since its establishment as a municipality in 1834, Dover has played an important role in both local and state government. It is home to three branches of government: City Council, township board of trustees, and State Senate chamber (the second largest in New Jersey). Additionally, Dover is host to two major NATO theaters: Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and Naval Surface Warfare Center Atlantic City. As one of only five municipalities within 10 miles of all four branches of New Jersey government (the other four are Princeton Township; Jackson Township; East Orange; Paramus), it also plays an important rolein statewide politicsand governanceand is often considered amongNJ's "thousand acres." In recent years there have been efforts by residents and businesses to revive downtown Dover as an Art District or get more investment into transportation infrastructure such as bike lanes and better walking trails around town center which would help improve access for everyone including tourists who visit during off-peak hours or when traffic is lightened up by new construction projects nearby like Trump Tower or Newark Liberty International Airport

The Dover Naval Air Station, located in Delaware County, New Jersey was founded on December 12, 1921 asNAS Quonset Point. The air station served the town of Dover until its closure in 1972. It reopened as NAS Dover on October 1, 1984 and served the city of Dover until it closed again in 1992. On September 3, 1994 it reopened as NAS Middletown after being decommissioned at NAS Quonset Point. It served the city of Middletown until it closed again on May 25, 2002. The airport currently operates as an adjunct to Hunterdon County Airport and is used by charter airlines for operations other than air travel.
Dover, New Jersey is a town in Kent County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 23,868 at the 2010 census. Dover is one of the five most populous towns in New Jersey and it is also one of the few remaining municipalities in Kent County that are not part of the Camden metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Dover were Pilgrims from Plymouth Colony on December 15, 1614 when they set out for Plymouth Rock. On January 3, 1764, George Washington appointed John Adams as Collector of Customs at Dover because he could not find someone to do this job effectively in Philadelphia. Dover Township was formed on March 8, 1834 from portions of West Newark and East Brunswick township. It became a borough on May 5th of the same year by an act of the New Jersey Legislature with a total population of 10,000 residents. The Borough Act limited its powers to those having property within its borders and did not allow it to become a city or make any other municipal changes without the consent of both communities within its boundaries which it did not have until 1861 when both South Amboy and North Amboy petitioned for city status but were refused due to lack of referendum support from either community. In 1916 Dover Township ratified an ordinance setting up limits on how much land each family could own and how much development could be done within their municipality boundaries without first getting written consent from both communities within their borders which they did not have until 1961 again when both South Amboy and North Amboy petitioned for city status but were refused due to lack of referendum support from either community; however this time they received unanimous approval. In 1924 Delaware Avenue was named after then-Governor Franklin D Roosevelt who had given his address there during his inauguration ceremony as President four years earlier; however only three years later (1928) it was renamed Independence Boulevard after Vice President James Kefauver who had been helped by Congressman Lewis Hogg Sr., who chaired the House Judiciary Committee during that period; finally in 1960 Independence Boulevard reverted back to Delaware Avenue once again effective July 1st following passage by the New Jersey Legislature which granted Cityhood To Newark And All Its inhabitants As Said Law Requests And Issued A Resolution Saying So Effective August 1st When Newark Passed An Ordinance Declaring That They Were Not In compliance With The Laws And Order Of Their Former Mayor Who Had Hypocritically Gone Into exile After Being Accused Of Treason By His Associates Which Was Reported In The Evening Standard Newspaper Days After The Vote occurred A full list can be found here: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ac/Dover_New_Jersey._township%2C_kent_county%2C_usa%2C._2010%2C._census

Dover, New Jersey is a town in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 24,433 at the 2010 census. Dover was incorporated as a town on March 12, 1889. It became an independent city on December 1, 1916. Dover is located on the Delaware River and is bordered by Rahway to the north and east; Ewing to the south and west; and Glassboro to the northwest. The downtown area has been called "The Pearl of Essex County" for its many large commercial buildings dating back to the early 1800s. Dover's rich history can be traced back to its earliest days as a small village named West Egg on Long Island Sound. In 1708, Englishman John Woolridge erected a small fort at Dover Point on behalf of his master-captain Frederick Philipse II of Bergen Township in present-day Sussex County. The first permanent English settlement in what is today Dover happened whenCaptain James Cook sailed past this location in his ship HMS Resolution in 1768 during his third voyage around America (the first being under British captain Christopher Newport). Cook had been exploring what are now Maine and New York since 1755 when he set out from England searching for land that could serve as a new home for Britain after her long struggle with France. He sighted Cape May Bay just off Sandy Hook before landing at Manhattan Beach on April 14th but did not explore this area further because high water kept him from going any deeper than Sandy Hook which he reached about three miles below low tide mark! After Captain Cook's visit two years later, American colonists John Blair and Isaac Norris built Fort Tryon along with several other smaller posts along both banks of the Delaware River opposite modern day Dover where they also traded goods with Indians who lived near them along the riverbanks. Meanwhile, young Lt.-Colonel George Washington led cavalry charges upriver against French forces at Monmouth Bridge on July 25th 1814 which resulted in two British fatalities including General Cornwallis who ordered Washington's retreat back upstream towards Patriot Hill then turned southwest towards Princeton instead! This event established George Washington as one of America's leading military commanders during its Revolutionary War era! During World War II much of what is now central Dover was destroyed by German bombers raids overlordateing Newark Liberty Airport causing significant loss of life or damage including entire blocks within our downtown businesses including RCA Victor Studios/Plymouth Hall & their associated production facilities where thousands of jobs were created creating major economic vitality throughout central NJ during those difficult times! After World War II ended hostilities ceased between Nato allies Germany & Italy particularly regarding steel production following an investigation conducted by United States Army Corpsof Engineers known as "Operation Paperclip". Upon American occupation authorities becoming aware about these activities they immediately initiated proceedings pursuant to IEEA Security Council resolution 753 which declared all steel products produced by Nazi Germany & Italian Fascism must be confiscated& exported immediately!! As part of Operation Paperclip many top ranking Gestapo members were also arrested or dispatched abroad but few if any such individuals ever faced trial given prevailing public opinion which placed great emphasis upon national suicide operations being carried out without detection thereby sparing innocent lives!!! In recent decades significant redevelopment has taken place within core City Limits areas surrounding Newark Liberty Airport providing much needed retail space for residents adjacent to Interstate 95 while also initiating initiatives designed To improve transportation options resulting in increased accessibility via bike paths etc., making it easier than ever for people living within City Limits to get aroundtown without having to leave their homes!! Most recently there have been plans underway for yet another major redevelopment project currently under development adjacent to Cowles Quarry State Park aimed at transforming Cowles into one of NorthJersey’s most vibrant shopping destinations complete with luxury apartments/condos/mall spaces/etc., making it possible once again for everyone living within City Limits accessto world-class culinary experiences !!
