The Marines of Dover, New Jersey perpetuate the history of Marine Corps Deployments through gift giving. The tradition began in the early 1970s when Marines from the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego County donated items to be sent back home as part of a Christmas present for their families. Over time, other detachments and units have joined the marine family and now there are more than 350 marines stationed in Dover. The marines in Dover give back to society by participating in many community events throughout the year. They contribute their time and energy to various charities such as American Cancer Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Strollers for Kids. This year’s event will feature local golfers playing alongside army members while representatives from both branches of government attend a luncheon providing an overview of national security issues face America this year.
