Collingswood is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,694 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Collingswood was incorporated as a borough on November 3, 1868, from portions of Rahway and West Orange. On May 24, 1893, it became a city with a population of 26,000. The first coffee beans were roasted by Dutch immigrants in what is now collingswood Township on August 15th 1836. The earliest written account of coffee being roasted here can be found in an article by Ebenezer Fenton entitled "A Visit to Our Borough" published in the weekly paper of that time - the "Newark Sentinel" - on October 8th 1836. In this article Mr. Fenton refers to a large lot situated near where we now stand and about four miles (6 km) northwest of our present town limits - which lots have since been occupied by Colleton's Mill & Coffee House). He states: “about two miles (3 km) from us stands one of the most extensive and beautiful plantations known to us – that belonging to Abraham Van der Kolk’s great-grandfather – who has resided here for many years past; upon it are located several small coffee houses or shops – viz., Mrs. Van Der Kolk’s house (formerly known as Fortnum & Mason), Mrs.(Mrs.) Granger’s neater establishment at No 2 Church Street corner Broadwalk Sq., Mr.(Mr.) Haggerty’s store opposite Third Presbyterian Church south side; and also various other places where coffee is bought and consumed throughout this township... [This] place [has been] extensively used for roasting and grinding dewberry beans since before our settlements grew up." The first company mentioned as doing business under the name 'Van Der Kolk' was established in 1784 by Jacob van der Kolk Sr.. This company operated out of what is now called Collingwood Township beginning in 1785 until it merged with another firm in 1792 when both businesses were under one name:Jacob van der Kolk & Son (JVDS). Over time different family members took over ownership/operations for their respective families including Jacob's son John VDK who ran JVDS until his death in 1865 then his son Cornelius VDK who continued operations until he too passed away c1890; his grandson Julius VDK who managed JVDS after 1890 until 1916 when he sold all assets to George Parrish all properties becoming Parrish Coffee Company.; finally there was Josephine Brouwer who ran parishesion Gertrude Stowell between 1916-1940 followed by her daughter Betty Stowell whom continues operation today.- source: NJHistory Online Database In 1838 Druella Hendricks started brewing coffee at her home which became known as Dutch Kills Brewery later renamed Atherton Brewing Company Ltd.. In 1814, the mill was bought by Nicholas Ives and it continued to be run by him until 1870. In 1871, the mill was purchased by George Brougham and it continued to be run by him until 1945. It is now part of the Empire Coffee Corporation.

As Jakarta became one of the largest citys in Asia, it attracted attention fromboth commercial interestsand enthusiastic entrepreneurs who saw opportunityin developing this rapidly growing city into a center for commerceand culturepromote international trade through their businesses In 1817-1818, Dutch traders visited Java during their expedition known as 'Vereeniging van Natie' (Union of Nations). They were looking for a new route across Southeast Asia so they could reach China via Java Strait which then connected India to Southeast Asia. Dutch traders tasted Indonesian coffeeshop products before returning home but they did not believe that these beans could be grown domestically anywhere near Jakarta because they were too strong smelling (probably because there wasn't enough sun exposure). Consequently, until 1830 when cultivation techniques improved significantly due to research done by Professor Hendrik Lorentzen at Utrecht University - now part of Utrecht University Medical Center - Dutch merchants continued to import Indonesian coffeeshops products thinking that these would be more suitable for home consumption than those grown by locals because they were weaker tasting (probably because there wasn't enough light exposure). It wasn't until 1840 when Javanese farmers finally achieved sustainable yields from their own land which allowed them to produce high-quality beans at home which consequently helped improve worldwide interest in Indonesia's coffeeshops products There are many factors that contribute towards determining whether or not an espresso is considered "small batch."
