Collingswood is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,574 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from Collingwood House on the collingwood estate in 1776. The first European settlers of Collingswood were Dutch and they named it "Calloway." In 1801, the Englishman Jameson family founded a farm near what is now Collingswood and called it "Good Hope." It was during this time that the name "Collingwood" began to be used. In 1828, John Dorney purchased land in what is nowCollingswood from Lord Montagu for £1,500. He gave the land to his son-in-law Samuel Wayland who changed its name to "Wayland's Grove". In 1851, John Atherton bought 90 acres (36 hectares) of land at Township Road 3 and named it "Atherton's Plains". He subdivided this into two tracts and sold one for $10 per acre (1/2 acre). These tracts became collingwoods. In 1865, Augustus Greene donated 4 rods (0.9 acres) of land at which he raised barns and laid out streets in what are today Collingswood Township and North Brunswick Township. In 1868–69, Geo Wirth developed a small piece of land east of current day Boulevard Avenue between Old Bridge Road and Spring Garden Road into an all-purpose village known as Valley Forge which had stores, a schoolhouse and 60 homes by 1870 when Wirth sold most of his holdings to Abraham Lincoln for $5 million dollars ($ million today). This transaction made President Abraham Lincoln one of CollingsWOOD'S early residents because he lived about three miles (4 kilometers) away from Valley Forge at 202 Cherry Street until he moved to Washington D.C., then Virginia Beach in 1870 when he became President Ulysses S. Grant's Vice Presidential elector over Andrew Johnson. In 1881–82 Parvin Hahnel built an addition on the west side of Main Street where we currently have our Post Office building located; this addition would become known as the Park Inn & Golf Course complex which would include six golf courses including The Ridges course designed by legendary golfer Willie Anderson with links measuring 756 yards long! That same year also saw establishment of Stroudsburg School District No 2 with its new buildings on Fairview Avenue just northeast of downtown area – these structures still stand today as part of Valley Forge Elementary School Campus along with other original structures from that period such as Mrs Doyle’s grocery store adjacent thereto! Collingswood was a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It was located on the east bank of the Delaware River and had a population of 511 as of the 2010 census. The name is derived from Collingwood Manor, which once belonged to Quaker James Collingwood. The first settler in Collingwood was Nicholas Fenton in 1784. In 1812, Daniel D'Angelo built a gristmill on the stream that flows through the town. By 1820, there were thirteen families living inCollingswood. In 1824, John MacNeill donated land to make up for some boundary problems with nearby Perth Amboy. In 1830, Edward Everett Phelps moved his family from Somerset County to collingswood and started a tannery there. Phelps became one of Collingwood's most important residents and helped organized its civic life. He also gave generously to numerous charities and helped start The New Brunswick Journal newspaper Company in 1834. In 1868-69, large parts of collingswood were destroyed by a fire that burned for days throughout the township. Many homes were lost and many people were displaced; however, no one was killed or injured as a result of the fire. The community slowly rebuilt over the next few years thanks to donations from locals and friends alike. A new school building was completed in 1912-13 at 222 Main Street; this building served as both Collingwood High School and until 1954 as Easton High School when it merged into Easton Middle School.. In 1916-17 an annex was built at 4 Cross streets which served as Junior High School until 1959 when it merged into Easton Senior High School.. With increased demand for schools in rural Middlesex County after World War II (the war had brought many immigrants to America), an annex/building complex called “The Lakes” was constructed on state Route 202 north of town between 1951-1954; this complex housed four high schools: South Side (grades 7-8), North Side (grades 9-10), West Side (grades 11-12) and Sunrise (grades 13-14). This project added more than 400 acres (1 km²) toCollingswoods total area making it one of largest villages ever created within New Jersey . On October 2nd 1984 two bombs exploded near three shopping centers across from each other just blocks away from downtown Newark killing five people including two children under age 10 . One hundred thirty thousand books were destroyed withcollingswoods library being one collateral victim
