The Cliffside Park Army reserve unit was activated on July 15, 1942. The unit arrived in the area during World War II with a small complement of enlisted men. In the early days, the reservists were used for labor in various projects around town. In 1946, the unit was redesignated as the 1st Battalion of the 2nd Infantry Regiment and relocated to Clifftop Park. The battalion served at Clifftop until its disactivation on September 14, 1957. A few years later, on November 17, 1959, 1st Battalion (2nd Infantry) reactivated at Cliffside Park under command of Maj. Gen. Arthur J. Sutter with a new designation of 3rd Battalion (2nd Infantry). The battalion served until its disactivation on January 3, 1961. On October 5th of that year 1st Battalion's alumnus LtCol Charles Ewing Jr., USMC Ret.,activated them at Cliffside Park as part of their "Welcome Home" parades following their return from service in Vietnam where they had been deployed since December 1965; prior to this time they had been assigned duties within Company D Headquarters - Second Brigade Combat Team - I Corps Reserve Element headquartered at Saigon Barracks (now Da Nang Airbase). They remain active today as a ceremonial infantry regiment and are based out of Clifftop Park near Philadelphia

The United States Army deployed a gift history in Cliffside Park, New Jersey on Thursday, December 12th. The gift was delivered to the home of Mrs. Susan M. Marks and Sgt. John Giannini of the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd ID, at approximately 6pm.
Cliffside Park is a borough in the New Jersey town of Paterson. The population was 12,853 at the 2010 Census, up from 10,560 at the 2000 Census. Cliffside Park is one of five towns in Passaic County and is part of the Paterson-on-Hudson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlers in what would become Cliffside Park were Dutch farmers who arrived in 1664. They named their land "Willemstadt" after Willem (the brother of Philips II, King of Netherlands), but it was not until 1701 that they laid out a town on this site. The first buildings were built on what are now Fifth Street and Sixth Avenue. By 1800, there were around 100 residents living in Clifford's Mills and many more located along Third and Fourth Streets as well as Seventh Avenue. In 1814, Samuel Davenport purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) east of Clifford's Mills from John Stevens for $4,000 cash plus 20% interest on each year's investment; this area would later be known as Cliffside Park Township (and still remains so today). Davenport developed this land into an agricultural township with a shopping center and brick works called Davenport Forge Works. He also founded Sayreville to serve his constituents northeast of Clifford's Mills. The township was created on March 25, 1838 when Paterson Township was split off from Clifford's Mills Township following the creation of Passaic County by state legislation under Governor George Nicholas Izzo Sr.. On July 1st 1870, all four municipalities within Passaic County formed a new county called Hunterdon County with its seat at Trenton; however – because Hunterdon County did not have any municipalities east of Hackensack – Clifford's Mills became part of New Brunswick within that county instead. A fire destroyed most of the original infrastructure within Clifford's Mills on May 6th 1906; however, due to donations by citizens alike, replacement bricks were ordered and delivered soon after which revived business resumed without interruption until 1938 when another fire destroyed most again including much valuable personal property includingLibrary books! This prompted Mayor Jorgensen to ask for money to rebuild which he received during his term as Borough President beginning June 3rd 1938 through October 15th 1938…. In 1948 Cliffting Park merged with East Rutherford/New Brunswick becoming one municipality forming Passaic Valley Municipal Corporation effective February 22nd 1949 while still classified as a township according to NJ State law! On November 5th 1916 voters approved annexation by Jersey City making Cliffting Park borough status effective January 1st 1917! This occurred despite objections from some residents who felt that their home should remain village status… even though they had full voting rights!!! When New York City annexed Bergen County includingcliffside park on December 14th 1923 giving them an extra borough for services such as education etc., cliffside park reverted back to borough status effective February 24th 1924!!! A referendum held on April 9th 1927 resulted in increasing taxes being levied against single family homes owner only meaning 2 or 3 families could own homes but no apartments!!!!!!!!!!!!! As such large scale development outside our boundaries took place we regained our village feeling pretty good about ourselves….. finally………………….. On September 30th 1984 we passed an ordinance change reclassifying our borough into municipality form!!! We’ve been waiting for over fifty years now!!!!!!!!!

The name "Cliffside Park" was given to the community by Colonel James Paulding and Major General David Hunter after they explored and mapped its location while on a survey of western New Jersey in 1808.
