He donated this land to build what is now known as Fenton Park – one of several parks built in honor of John Fenton's donation throughout his lifetime. During World War II much activity took place within Fort Mifflin Army National Guard Base across Interstate 95 from downtown Camden due to its proximity to shipyards and airfields essential for military production. This area became known as "Fort Mifflin Hill". As part of I-95 construction project Phase 2 between 1965 and 1968 almost all surface traffic within 5 miles (8 km) of Fort Mifflin stopped while engineers constructed a new interchange near where I-95 currently ends at exit 34A (New Brunswick Avenue). A new business district was developed along with residential areas on both sides of I-95 which until then had been rural farmland east of Center Street south bound towards Ramsey Road and northbound towards Northumberland Avenue
