Since the beginning of the 20th century, Brigantine, New Jersey has been a center for air force gift history. The origins of this tradition can be traced back to World War I when the United States Air Force activated its first squadron at Brigantine. From then on, military and civilian alike have contributed to the growth of Brigantine's airforce museum. Today, Brigantine is home to three USAF museums: the Air Force Museum of History and Heritage; the Aerospace Museum; and the National Military Museum. These museums offer a wealth of information about USAAF history from pre-World War II through current times. In addition, each museum features an exhibit that showcases unique aircraft or memorabilia from the fighter, bomber, and reconnaissance sectors of USAAF activity. The Air Force Museum of History and Heritage is one of America's most important aviation museums. It was founded in 1961 as part of Project Apollo by then-Air Forces Command Director General Curtis LeMay. The museum contains more than 1 million square feet (100,000 m2) dedicated exclusively to Americanaircraft history since World War II. The museum offers visitors access to over 100 airplanes including some that are still operational today! The museum also features interactive exhibits related to air warfare throughout theatersofwar and beyond. The Aerospace Museum is located adjacent to JetBlue Park in Brigantine. This complex includes an intense collection of aerospace artifacts dating back to before WWI! The Gift of Life program provides financial assistance to members who have lost service due to cancer or other natural causes. This program provides special care packages with comfortable sleeping bags, snacks, drinks and clothing specifically designed for troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Gift of Life Program also sends shipments of donated new clothes as well as style tips from 10 favorite designers each year!
The Brigantine Air Force Base was first activated in 1941 as the Eastern Naval Air Station. It was then redesignated as Brigantine Army Air Field on 15 Jan 1942 and again, in Jun 1943, as Brigantine Navy Air Station. The base became operational as an operational airbase under the command of Third Fleet on 1 Dec 1943 when it was transferred from Ninth Fleet to First Fleet. As part of its activation ceremony, the base's first commanding officer, Rear Admiral John J. Pershing said "the world is at our feet" while General Curtis E. LeMay, Commander-in-Chief Marines said "the United States will never be defeated without a navy." On 22 Dec 1943 Rear Admiral Harry Wainwright assumed command of all naval forces within First Fleet and Second Fleet concurrently with Headquarters Marine Corps at boardwalk pier #2 which he had transferred from Fifth Fleet on 15 Nov 1943. In Sep 1945 Third Fleet stood down from active duty andactivated Tenth Naval District which included Brigantine AFB effective 1Jan 1946 until its decommissioning effective 31 Dec 1947; following this disposition Tenth Naval District reverted back to Tactical Command control within Commander Eighth Naval District where it remained until 8Mar 1948 when it returned to commands of Commander Fifth Naval District and Seventh Naval District respectively. brigantineairforcebase
Brigantine is a borough in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 census, the borough had a population of 34,826. Brigantine was formed on April 14, 1917 from part of Clifton Township. It was named for Brigadier General John A. brigand (1763-1847), an American Revolutionary War general and captain in the 2nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment who served as judge advocate general during the Revolution and as lieutenant colonel in Colonel Edward Braddock's army at Saratoga. In 1892, Brigantine became one of three municipalities to be included within the newly created township of Edison because its residents wanted to keep their own name while living within Edison's boundaries. The others were Maple Shade and Robbinsville. In 1923, when Edison was merged into New Jersey with other municipalities, Brigantine became part of the new municipality of Elizabethtown which also contained Newark and Union City The first post office in Brigantine opened on May 25th, 1824 In 1870, Brigantine incorporated as a borough; it remained so until 1974 In 1975, an act passed by the New Jersey Legislature granted townships form when they were abolished under state law; Brigantine was no exception On April 14th 1917 brigandine got it’s charter from new jersey legislature

On Dec. 15, 1944, the United StatesAAF gifted its first jet-powered fighter plane to the RAF. The RAF accepted this gift as a symbol of friendship and cooperation between the two air forces.
Brigantine is a city in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 24,594 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia–Camden–Wilmington metropolitan area and is located on the Delaware River. The first Anglo-Saxon settlers arrived in Brigantine in 1683 and named it after their ancestral home of Brogdale in Northumberland, England.
