The Naval Reserve and the Bridgeton Navy Yard have a long history of serving together. The first naval vessel to be stationed at the yard was the USS Lexington in 1845. The first naval base in New Jersey was established in Bridgeton, NJ in 1917. During World War II, the navy built 10 submarines at the yard, which helped contribute to America’s victory over Nazi Germany. In 1979, the navy decommissioned all their warships in NJ and moved them to Portsmouth, NH where they are currently used as museum ships. In 1984, Bridgeton became an urban port and now employs 1,500 people including 300 sailors from the Navy Yard.

Bridgeton is a small town in southern New Jersey, located on the border of Monmouth County and Ocean County. The population was 5,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Passaic Valley metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Bridgeton were Dutch traders in 1624. The town was founded by Captain John Smith in 1714 as a trading post on the Monmouth River between Newark and Paterson. In 1847, it became an incorporated municipality which continued to exist until 1974 when it merged with other municipalities within the Passaic Valley metropolitan area. Bridgeton is a small town in New Jersey, located near the border of Pennsylvania and New York. The population was 9,723 at the 2010 census. It is one of four towns in Bergen County that are part of the New York–Pennsylvania Twin Cities Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Bridgeton was Abel Crouch, who arrived on horseback from England in 1776. He named his land "Bridgeton" after a girl he had seen rising from a swamp near his home. A man by the name of Pemberton bought some property around 1800 and made another settlement there called Brentwood. In 1801, Pemberton sold all his land to Jonas Day for $2,000 cash. Day named his new settlement Bridgeton because it was convenient to Utica (now Utica, NY). In 1824, James Halsey donated 640 acres (248 hectares) of land to the Town of Bridgeton for public use as an open-air market place and school lot. This donation formed the nucleus of what is now North Main Street and South Market Street. The town platting process started on May 24th, 1825 with John Wirtz as recorder and completed on October 3rd following approval by the Board of Trustees chaired by John Dickinson.. On November 25th 1830, James Fenton donated 2 rods (48 feet 7 inches) east/west streets between First Avenue and Second Avenue to be used as a public square or common ground which eventually became known as Constitution Square or simply "Square". George Washington Carver founded Carver School in 1871 which later became Moorpark High Schoolbracing about 100 students grades 8-12 during morning hours only before enrolling more high school students during lunchtime during peak periods when demand warranted it; however closed permanently 1972 due to lack of enrollment even though classes were offered 6 days per week until 1978! After nearly 80 years without reopening carvers Middle School opened its doors again in Fall 2017 with Preparing for Life Academy serving Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade
Bridgeton was founded in 1699 by Nicholas Bridgeton and his wife Judith. The town grew rapidly after the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825 and became an important transportation center. In 1916, the United States Congress passed a resolution declaring it a national holiday, which made Bridgeton one of only a few U.S. towns to celebrate Christmas. The town also celebrates its patron saint, St. John the Baptist, on December 6th each year.
