In 1865, a new factory was built in Bridgeton to produce coffee for the nearby Newark Coffee Company. The company went bankrupt in 1867, but its legacy live on to this day with two of its buildings still standing—the Weldon Building and the Business Block.

The area that would become Bridgeton was acquired by the United States in 1784 as part of the Treaty of Paris following America's victory over Britain in the American Revolution. The town charter was granted on March 3, 1785. At its incorporation, Bridgeton had a total population of 581 residents. Bridgeton became an important industrial center during both World Wars II and after the war it experienced explosive growth with many companies moving to the community from all over America and Europe. In 1951, when Interstate 95 designation was given to Mercer County, Bridgeton became one of its five towns along I-95 (the other four being East Brunswick Township, Hamilton Township, West Orange Township and Plainfield Township). After years of decline due to suburbanization and changes in worker behavior away from manufacturing jobs during economic recessions throughout much of the late 20th century BRIDGETON has regained some lost steam as retail development continues apace In recent decades there have been efforts made by various groups within or outside of BRIDGETON to promote cultural activities within its limits including art galleries/gallery owners; music venues; bookstores; farmers markets; summer camps for children Bridgeton still retains a sense that it is "a little old fashioned" which may be why it remains popular among retirees seeking relatively unpretentious surroundings with plenty going on but without all the extras typically associated with larger metropolitan areas such as high end shopping malls or professional sports teams

Bridgeton is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit the area were Dutch traders in 1624. They called it "Bridgewood". In 1714, an Englishman named Nicholas Carteret built a small cabin on the then-prairie just east of what is now Bridgeton Township. The settlement quickly grew and by 1727 had a church and some homes. By 1740, Bridgewood had five families and around 100 inhabitants. In 1812, Brigetown became part of Bergen Township when that township was created from portions of Middlesex County. It remained part of Bergen until 1970, when it became part of New York City. In 1870, Brigetown suffered damage during a fire that destroyed much of its commercial district and left many residents homeless. However, within a few years most businesses had rebuilt and the community slowly regained its former prosperity as one of northeastern New Jersey's most vibrant agricultural communities. However, with technological advances came new opportunities for economic growth for Bridgeton; in 1965 the town received an IBM mainframe computer plant which made it one of the first towns in New Jersey to be recipient of such equipment from IBM Corporation (now Oracle). This led to increased manufacturing activity in the town as well as new jobs for locals who constructed IBM plants all over America during this time period; however also came increased competition from larger metropolitan areas throughout New Jersey which caused some decline in business activity while also contributing to overall employment growth rates among Bridgewood residents over time
Bridgeton was founded in 1724 by John Bridget, a British nobleman. The town quickly grew and became a center for trade and industry. In the 1840s, it became a popular resort town with its own luxury hotels and resorts. It experienced some prosperous years during the Civil War, but ultimately lost its economic significance. Today, Bridgeton is home to a small population of people who work in the local economy.
