On May 14th, 1886, Johnnie Lupo bought an automatic pistol from Wirt Hinton at auction after purchasing it off Hinton’s farm near Belle Vernon Twp., NJ for $120 cash plus 10% commission on sales thereafter (the standard practice at that time). Bellmawr is a borough in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,569 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Camden-Bergen metropolitan area. Bellmawr was founded on May 12, 1777 by Colonel Elijah Burr and his wife Catherine Morison as a small farmstead called "Burlington". The name may be from an English word meaning "beautiful forest", although no such word is mentioned in the early history of the borough. The first settlers were Major John Tryon and Captain John Smith who arrived in 1777 as part of the forces that defended America against its Spanish invaders. They named their settlement after Lord Bellamont near London which they thought would make it more likely for other colonists to support them financially when they needed help. The first stores and buildings were built by Tryon and Smith, including a meeting house and blacksmith shop where they met to discuss plans for the new community. Tryon also donated land for a schoolhouse and cemetery. In 1814, Bellmawr became part of Burlington Township based on its location between Camden and Princeton municipalities. In 1847, it became part of Middlesex Township based on its size - only 5 miles wider than Burlington but with a much larger population - making it one of the earliest towns in that township. On November 14, 1868, portions of Middlesex Township (including Bellmawr) were annexed into Essex County due to growing political tensions over issues such as slavery and education within newly formed America; this event is generally known as the Integration Act of 1868. The post office was established at Bellmawr on October 1, 1870; Henry DeWitt Jr., mayor from 1880 until his death in 1890; Josephine Bogan (1892-1901); James Hickey (1901-1905); Morton Weisenthal (1905-1907); Alfred Siegel ( 1907-1909). On December 4th 1907 Samuel Goldwyn purchased all shares in THE BELLMAWR PHONE COMPANY from Julius Kappelman for $2 million dollars which he used to create Keystone Pictures Corporation original production facilities located at Roosevelt Road & Orange Avenue Suite 1014 – now home to PGA TOUR Champions Academy
