The Bayonne National Guard gift history can be traced back to the early days of New Jersey. The first units of the Bayonne National Guard were organized in 1892, and they served throughout World War I. In 1924, the New Jersey Legislature passed a law that authorized the formation of a national guard division in Bayonne. The unit was named the 1st Battalion, 9th Regiment, New Jersey National Guard. In 1951, the battalion was redesignated as 2nd Battalion, 9th Regiment, New Jersey National Guard. The 3rd Battalion, 9th Regiment was also activated in 1951 and served until 1966 when it merged with 2nd Battalion, 8th Regiment to form 1st Brigade (New Jersey), 10th Infantry Division NJNG. The brigade then became part of I Corps under Army General Colin Powell during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003-2004. The brigade currently inactive is located at Sayreville Armory in Sayreville Township for storage purposes only
Bayonne is a borough in New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, Bayonne had a population of 68,895. The name "Bayonne" is thought to be derived from the Dutch word bayer (bay), meaning “shore” or “headland”, and nieuw (new), meaning new or fresh. According to the municipality's website, the first settlers in Bayonne were Dutchman Jan van der Heyden and his wife Merta van der Velde who settled on what is now Livingston Avenue in 1664. In 1714, Nicholas-Jacques Conte moved from Staten Island to Bayonne with his family and began farming land that would become part of the township of Bergen County. In 1871, Bayonne became an incorporated town when it was combined with neighboring Hackensack and Paramus. The merger was done because each borough had a population of less than 10,000 people while Paramus had a population of over 20,000 people. The first mayor for Bayonne was Averill Harriman and the first vice president was James Prentice Coffin Jr.. On July 1st 1909 due to annexation by Jersey City which then had a more populous population than Bayonne at that time; both towns merged into one municipality called "New Jersey City". The Borough Council currently consists of seven members elected at-large with three seats being vacated each year due to term limits: Mayor Dave Levy (D Ward), Vice Mayor Joseph Doherty (V Ward) and Commissioner Jeffrey Messina (Cothran/Beachwood). Elections are held every two years as part of municipal governance within New Jersey City as well as throughout all municipalities in New Jersey which have an staggered four year mayoral term schedule. Borough officials also serve on various committees including Water Affairs Committee; Parks & Recreation Committee; Economic Development Committee; Streetscapecommittee; Health & Safety Committee; Zoning Appeals Board;; Business Oversight Board;; Housing Authority Advisory Commission;; Master Plan Review Panel;; Historic Preservation Commission;; Community Development Authority Advisory Commission.; Taxation Appeals Board;; Planning Review Panel;; Borough Manager position open until filled by another candidate appointed by councilmembers
The National Guard is a military organization which is made up of reserve soldiers from the United States. The National Guard has been in existence since 1792, when the Continental Congress set up the army and navy to guard against British Invasion. The first unit called the Pennsylvania Volunteers was raised on November 15, 1776. After independence was gained, members of the Continental Congress formed companies of infantry and artillery to guard their new nation’s borders. In 1812, 1,500 men were raised for service in Florida during Seminole Wars. In 1861, 5 batteries of artillery were ordered to Virginia as part of President Abraham Lincoln’s effort to quash secessionist movements throughout America. The units served until 1865 when they were mustered out and disbanded. In 1946, all National Guardsmen who had served since World War II were re-organized into an agency called National Guard Bureau under the umbrella of Department of Defense named after First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt who championed national defense spending programs for her home country (U.S.). During her tenure at DOD she also chaired multiple commissioning ceremonies for women in the military including Army Nurse Corps Brigadier General Mary Norris Peake (1924-2005). After Mrs. Roosevelt’s death in 1994, many members memorialized her with annual or special dinners honoring those individuals who had made a significant impact on American society during that year or earlier; these dinners have now become known as “Eleanor Roosevelts Dinner” where dignitaries and industry leaders are invited to attend along with government officials and other notable citizens from each state or district within that year’s calendar period (Jan 1 through Dec 31). On May 15th, 1942, Allied forces liberated Bayonne from Nazi troops during World War II following their successful invasion of Sicily. The city experienced various post-war boom years with many new businesses being established including an NFL team (the Giants) and two universities (Newark State University and Rutgers University). However, since 2000s Bayonne has seen declines with crime rates continuing to rise while joblessness rates have remained high among its residents

In 1783, during the American Revolution, the town came under British control and was renamed Kingston. Afterward, it experienced significant growth as a manufacturing center and served as the capital of New Jersey from 1821 to 1827. The city’s population peaked in 1960 at over hundred thousand people but has since declined due to suburbanization and loss of local jobs. Today, Bayonne is a small town with a population of around fifty thousand people.
