Bayonne, New Jersey is a small town in Hudson County, New York, United States. The population was 7,471 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north bank of the Hackensack River and shares boundaries with Bergen Township to the east and Passaic Township to the west. Bayonne is one of five municipalities in Hudson County and is part of the New York metropolitan area. The earliest known inhabitants of Bayonne were Native Americans who lived along the Hackensack River. The first European settlers arrived in 1664 when John Winthrop sailed from England on HMS Mayflower and landed at present-day Bayonne Cove. At that time, Bayonne was part of Monmouthshire County. In 1725, George Washington founded what would become Princeton University at Princeton Manor on land near today's College Road and Broad Street; this location served as its original campus until 1917 when it moved to West Side Highway (now Willowbrook Parkway) in central Bayonne. In 1838, Nicholas Conte opened a ferry service between Newark and Ferry Street wharf which soon became an important link between Middlesex County and Union County; this ferry service helped make Bayonne an important commercial center during the early days of Rutgers University’s establishment as a national research university in 1834. As Newark grew rapidly during the late 19th century, more people began moving intoBayonne than could be accommodated within its original limits; so much growth took place that by 1920 only about one-third ofBayonnese residents lived within city limits while nearly two-thirds resided within five miles (8 kilometers) of downtown bayonnenequalityoflifewas scarcely improved over prewar levels despite numerous public programs designed to improve conditions including streetcar lines connecting all areas adjacent tothecityandtheestablishmentofschoolsandahospital.(1) In 1915–16 Philip Scheuer developed plans for what would become Oneonta Plaza – later renamed Cross Keys Mall – which anchored Boulevard East in downtown Bayonne for more than seventy years before being demolished in 2008 following heavy criticism from community groups about how it affected local businesses, damaged cultural heritage items, created an ugly open plaza surrounded by high rises housing developments adjacenttoMallards Square Park (renamed Cross Keys Village), eliminated most crosswalk opportunities near busy intersections,, increased traffic congestion around mall., increased pollution due to vehicular traffic Congestion Control Program instituted after World War II

Bayonne is a town in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 27,824 at the 2010 Census. It is the county seat of Essex County and the largest town in New Jersey. Bayonne was founded on May 5, 1676 by colonists from Dutch New Netherland who were looking for a new home after their colony's defeat at Saratoga Creek that year. Afterward, Bayonne became an important trade center with its location on the Hackensack River and its access to shipyards and other industrial sites near Newark. The commercial hub of Bayonne soon developed into a major manufacturing center during the 19th century as production rose along with earn income from tanning, cheese making and brewing industries. The 20th century saw significant redevelopment of Bayonne as part of efforts to become an urban area with high-density development around transportation hubs like PATH Station and Interstate 95; this has included the construction of numerous municipalities including Garden City borough and Owings Mills Township. However, recent economic struggles have been blamed largely onbridge failures in nearby Rutherford County while local government spending has lagged behind national averages; this has resulted in increasing crime rates and budget deficits which have led to pressure on infrastructure such as schools and hospitals. In December 2018, it was announced that Mayor Ras Baraka would step down effective January 1st 2019 due to his strained relationship with state leaders over changes made toNJ Transit's service plan which affects many businesses located within city limits
