There is no one answer to the question of where coffee began. Some believe that it was first brewed on an estate in Asbury Park, New Jersey, while others claim that coffee beans were brought over by Portuguese traders in the early 1500s. The discovery of roasted coffee beans in Sumatra in 1824 led to a surge in interest in the product, and soon cafés and restaurants sprang up all over Europe and America. One of the earliest Cafés located within walking distance of Asbury Park was The Starbuck’s Coffee House on Main Street from 1875-1876. This establishment had a ground floor café and upper floors for customers who would come down for breakfast or lunch. It is interesting to note that at this time there was no real distinction between Café/Restaurant business and Coffeehouse business – both operated under one roof. Café Ottoman opened its doors near Neptune Avenue & Atlantic Boulevard on Neptune Avenue adjacent to Asbury Park High School on December 1st 1912 with an initial seating capacity of thirty-six people (including six women). At first Turkish immigrants made up most of the company’s employees but as time went on more Europeans joined the ranks including Jews, Italians, East Germans, Poles etc.; eventually All American Coffee became majority European owned with only a small contingent still belonging to Turkey. The success of Ottoman turned out to be short-lived; within two years they had closed their doors due to financial difficulties caused by prohibitionism during World War I. However turkish immigrants did not forget their past experience at Café Ottoman; they reopened it as Cafe Erdogan some years later after Prohibition ended (1921). In 1923 Dutch expatriates founded Dutch colony Java Post with headquarters at 345 Broadwalk which served imported Indonesian coffee until 1959 when Java Post merged with Indonesia Airlines Company (AI) becoming Indonesia National Coffee Corporation which continues operations today as PT Jawa Tengah Nusa Tenggara International Incorporation or PT Jawa Tengah Nusa Tenggara “Jali Jaya” Pte Ltd.. In 1924 Harry Emerson Fenton opened his own store called The Grosvenor Elevated Coffee House located at 601 Lincoln Ave., Asbury Park NJ stating: “I offer excellent quality coffee beans direct from the roasters without being associated with any particular brand or organization…The prices are very reasonable too so you can affordably purchase your favorite cup of Joe without breaking the bank’” Another important player within this period was Mr Justice LaFontaine who ran his own grocery store next door called The Grosvenor Grocery Store from 1925 until his death in 1951 . His son JohnLaFontaine took over operation upon his father's death leaving behind a highly successful grocery store empire that spanned three states! With such enterprising individuals available local businessmen felt confident enought start their own Cafés/Reservoir stores similar(if not predecessor)to what we know today! In 1928 newly constructed Asbury Park Municipal Building featured several new cafes namely Dutch Colony Java Post off Broadwalk facing Ferry Road opposite Phillips Memorial Library across from Biltmore Gardens Hotel - now known asDutch Empire State Plaza - German Colony Wassersteinerhof off Route 9 northwest corner Kennedy Blvd., Italian Colony Castello del Greco e Caffè Generale Manfredo off Rte 46 east side First Avenue southwesterly corner 3rd Street - now known asDutch Empire State Plaza German Colony Austrian Lobster restaurant moved into building also features indoor pool

Asbury Park is a city in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 43,554 at the 2010 census. Asbury Park is the smallest of the four Bergen County municipalities and the second-smallest municipality in New Jersey after Paterson. The city is adjacent to Neptune City to the north and Seaside Heights to the south. Asbury Park was founded on December 12, 1795 by Loyalists from New York who had fled British rule during the American Revolution. It became an incorporated town on March 22, 1836. On July 16, 1849, as part of a wave of conversions to Protestantism following religious revivalism sweeping America following Mexican War victory over Mexico at Palo Alto (1846), Asbury Park's first black pastor was elected as pastor of Neptune City with 95% of the vote. The city's namesake is Commodore John Wainwright as he donated land for its incorporation and named it "Asbury" after himself and his family's home in Asneath, England which he purchased in 1792. A year later he moved his families there permanently when his father became Commodore John Wainwright II on November 10, 1794 with passage through Passaic River into what would become Atlantic County from Monmouthshire Township in Upper Manhattan via Perth Amboy (now West Deptford). In 1840s Asbury Park grew rapidly due to its strategic location between Princeton Junction - now Woodbridge Township - on one side and Rahway Junction - now Uniondale - on the other; plus its close proximity to both Trenton and Philadelphia along Route 220B/I route that crossed through present-day Asbury Park near where Interstate 80 ends today just east of Raritan Lake Boulevard (today's Sunrise Highway). In 1844 local developer Isaac Nadel bought land contiguous with what would become Asbury Park from US government for $1 million dollars becoming one of America’s earliest developers; developing into one of North Jersey’s most influential businesspeople before dying suddenly aged only 46 years old while still president emeritus – more than three decades younger than any other American leader prior! Nadel also played an important role in designing many early blocks including Elmira Place – a large shopping center located immediately west off I-80 exit 5A off Highland Ave., across fromToday’s PATH train stop – anchored by two large department stores Macy’s & Sears which opened their first stores there in 1901 & 1903 respectively.; latter opening their largest store outside USA until 1964 when Sears closed its doors forever followed by Mervyn King’s Kleinfeld Jewelers which anchor today’s mall interior concourse opposite Macy’s main entrance !! Heldatessen precursor Red Lobster opened there too initially serving Dutch immigrants working construction nearby until 1922 when they closed down (& replaced with Raritan Lake Roadside Grill) leading directly to modern day drive thru restaurant chains like Dominos & Taco Bell starting up throughout NJ & PA !! Finally In 1961 another key development occurred when Camden Yards divisionfavorite Jethro Tull recorded their last album here during late 1960′sdubbed “Are You Experienced?” live understudied by Dick Dale band performing all songs acoustic backed by string section augmented by percussionist Bernie Leadbetter for TV debut nationally that summer resulting then tour being aborted due military action taking place over Syria !! KFC relocated to new facility built nearby across First Street from former jail complex housing senior citizens group Pottersville Rd Nursing Home until 2013 conversion Completed allowing unlimited parking + free access for public school children playing fields next door !! Today nearly every inch of this once vibrant town has been impacted either directly or indirectly at some point!!
