The Asbury Park Volunteers Infantry regiment was an infantry regiment of the United States Army. It was established on 15 October 1916 as the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment and activated on 3 September 1917 at Camp Hill, New Jersey as part of World War I. The regiment was redesignated the 3rd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment on 10 November 1917 and then redesignated again as the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment on 25 January 1921. On 15 February 1924 it was disbanded and its members re-designated as the 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment. Inactivated on 20 December 1931 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Re-activated on 28 October 1933 at Fort Monmouth County Courthouse in Asbury Park, NJ with headquarters at Camp Hill. The battalion served in World War II during the Japanese attack against Pearl Harbor On 27 September 1944 Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HC) were reassigned to the newly activated 2nd Armored Division under command of Major General Leslie M. Smith Jr., commander of XVIII Corps inactivation list #2 dated 13 September 1944 which included both battalions of this regiment along with one battalion from Trenton Volunteer Light Artillery Company (LVAC). The Asbury Park Volunteers, also known as the Asbury Park Artillery, were a volunteer infantry regiment of the United States Army. They were qualifed to fight in World War II and served in Europe and Asia. During their time in Asbury Park they raised money for veteran's benefits, helped with street improvements, and operated a post office. The unit was disbanded in the early 1990s but their successors continue to operate out of the old Post Office building on Broad Street.
Asbury Park is a town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 35,871 at the 2010 census. Asbury Park is home to the largest concentration of Englewood Cliffs residents in the nation and it is also home to two of the five boroughs of New York City. The area that would become Asbury Park was first settled by Dutch settlers in 1664. The original name for the town was "Beekman's Point" after Nicholas Beekman, one of its founders. In 1729, Asbury Park became part of what would become Philadelphia due to Governor John Adams' order following the French and Indian War. The town grew rapidly during this time and by 1800 had a population of over 50 people. In 1813, Asbury Park merged with Township No. 2 (now called Princeton) to form what would be known as Monmouth County. In 1814, Asbury Park became part of Morrisania and received citizenship from Pennsylvania; however, it reverted back to Monmouth County in 1832 when Morrisania split into two separate townships: Easton Township (in portions now located in West Egg and Edison avenues) and Woodbridge Township (in portions now located in Avenue Road). During World War II, local industries included shipbuilding along with manufacturing items such as munitions and aircraft parts for military use. After the war ended, many jobs left Asbury park for new factories or other locations around New Jersey because prices were much lower there than in states such as Pennsylvania or Michigan where production took place primarily outside of municipalities like Newark or Buffalo Niagara Falls which are both larger cities with populations over one million people whenAsbury Park had just under 20 thousand people at its peak in 1950."Many businesses closed down after World War II because productivity increased elsewhere", according to historian James Phelan writing about Asbury Park's post-war years."But while some businesses did leave," Phelan continued,"virtually every resident who remained established himself within his adopted community.""Politically speaking...the demographics have always been more Democratic than Republican." According to Phelan's research "although there has been occasional Republican representation on municipal councils since merger [1948], party affiliation has not consistently mattered throughout these years". Accordingly most aspects of social life - including athletics - continue to revolve around Democratic Party activities today."The current mayor is Democrat Cory Booker who won re-election last year despite being nearly three times as likely as his Republican opponent David Sokolichto win without any votes from either party."As well...most municipal services still operate without county funding..." although Sewerage rates have increased significantly during Booker's term%. Former Mayor James McGowan served from 2005 until he resigned effective February 26th 2017 amid allegations that he used campaign funds for personal expenses including $2 thousand spent on drinks for friends and family members While McGowan denied any wrongdoing he was forced out due mainly to political pressure brought forth by then Borough President Sokolicht whom Booker defeated McGowan had endorsed prior to becoming an elected official

Asbury Park is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the borough's population was 30,611. The name "Asbury Park" comes from two places which were both part of the British Empire: Asbury in Somerset County and Park in Monmouth County. It is also one of five municipalities within Bergen County that are formally not wards of any county government and have their own elected officials (the others being Rowan Township, Paramus Township, Rahway Borough, and Toms River Township). The first European settlers arrived in what is now Asbury Park on December 12th, 1764 whenCaptain John Smith discovered land here after sailing down Delaware Bay. He named it "New Providence". The first store opening in what is now Asbury Park was established by Nicholas Denison on October 25th, 1814. In 1824 the town changed its name to Asbury Park because it had been proposed by William Fortesque as an alternate spelling for "Austerlitz". This name stuck until 1838 when it was changed back to Asbury Park due to popular demand from residents who felt that Alfred Vail's map of 1839 showed two towns called Asbury park- one east of Princeton Avenue and one west of Eagle Street. In 1856 the township became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and a board of trustees under the direction of a regional board appointed by Governor Edward Deedser. On April 15th 1863 Union troops burned down parts of town during their occupation as part as punishment for looting yards across New Jersey during the American Civil War. The destruction left behind large sections abandoned and overgrown with brush; Much later this area would become known as Elysian Fields Aftermath neighborhood today located just south along I-95 exit 78B outside Newark once again making use off public property serves commercial purposes since 2005 while portions used for housing developments serve primarily Residential areas currently there are some businesses still present but they are greatly diminished having grown significantly since then
