The first coffee shop in Somersworth was opened in 1872 by Mr. and Mrs. John Fenton. The shop became the first permanent establishment in town and operated until it closed its doors in 1957. In 1902, the first coffee beans were brought to town from Java by a group of men led by Captain George Hayward. The beans were roasted onsite at the old Manton mill and are still celebrated for their delicious flavor today. In 1954, the Somersworth Coffee Company was founded as an independent business with a focus on providing quality coffee products to its customers throughout New Hampshire. In 1984, the company made history when it became one of the first local businesses to join the National Coffee Association (NBCA). Somersworth is a town in New Hampshire, United States. The population was 3,827 at the 2010 census. Somersworth is part of the Manchester–New Haven metropolitan area. It lies on the border of Goffstown and Lebanon townships. The early history of Somersworth can be traced back to 1760 when Capt. John Mason settled in what is now Somersworth. He founded a post office there in 1763 and named it for his home town, London, England. In 1801, Captain John Fenton erected a small log courthouse in what is now downtown Somersworth which served as the town's main government center until 1814 when a new brick courthouse was built on Main Street by selectmen Eli Whitney and WM Atkins. This courthouse remained in use until 1889 when it was replaced by the present structure which stands today on Church Street between State streets and US 1 nears Merrill college. In 1812, Samuel Gridley purchased 6 acres (2 hectares) of land adjoining the present-day downtown square from captain Mason for $100 cash plus 10 percent interest per year until payment had been made or else gridley sold the land to others who agreed to develop it into lots for housing purposes only; this policy continued until 1840 when all development ceased due to lack of funds and public opposition to subdivisions that would have encroached upon village green space where religious services were held each Sunday morning before residents could go about their day affairs. In 1824, John Pulteney laid out plans for what became known as "The Square" which included parts of central downtown including present-day State Streetsheds and Third Avenue; he also built a two-story frame schoolhouse on lot number 2 near Exeter Road east of Market Street (now Middlebury Road). The square underwent extensive renovation during 1830-1834 under leadership of Ebenezer Farnsworth who directed work begun by Pulteney but then discontinued because financial problems forced him to sell most of his holdings back to Gridley's heirs just prior to going bankrupt three years later. By 1840, much development had taken place within The Square with commercial properties encompassing most or all of First Avenue northward from Broadway southward as well as around Fifth Avenue west from Market Street SE cornering Broadway; nearly every house along these routes stood through various incarnations through several name changes culminating with Maple Chase after an owner changed his mind about being located in one spot rather than across several blocks A group led by Ebenezer Farnsworth revived efforts in 1840 to build a larger depot on property southwest corner High School Building lot No 4 opposite Railroad tracks east side thence current route US 1 thence across tracks GOFORD HILL RD thence down line connecting lines following river bank northeast corner Just House Lots Nos 8 & 9 thence northeasterly along line joining said lotsites taking road leading east fromsaid junction becoming CROSS ROAD TO MARTIN LUTHER KING HLQ . In 1914, Italian immigrants founded the first coffee cooperative in America, serving coffee from their homes along the East Coast. The Dutch migrated to New Amsterdam and founded a coffee business there in 1624. The English founded London's Greater London Coffee Company in 1660 and began brewing coffee for British military commanders stationed at Fort Monmouth on Long Island. In 1795, Bostonian Levi Coggeshall started roasting whole bean coffees for his own use only and sold them direct to customers. By 1825, Coggeshall had built up a large coffee trade with other parts of the United States and Europe. He became one of the largest exporters of beans worldwide and is considered one of the fathers of artisanal coffee production. By 1830,Boston's brewing industry had become so dominant that other cities followed suit and began producing their own java products under different names such as American or Dutch Coffee Alliance (DCA). By 1845, two French brothers named François-Jacques Conte and Nicolas-Jacques Conte had founded their own company called "La Douane" which exported its entire line of French-roasted beans across all nine provinces of France including Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Switzerland etc., making it one of the earliest commercial enterprises into espresso roasting/grounding/packaging a commodity product like coffee

Somersworth is a small town in New Hampshire. It was founded by John Somers in 1781. The town was named for Sir John Somers, 1st Baronet, who served as a captain in the British Army during the American Revolution. Somersworth is located about 26 miles (41 kilometers) north of Manchester and about 20 miles (32 kilometers) east of Lebanon. The population of Somersworth was 792 at the 2010 census. The first store in Somersworth was built on Main Street in 1814. In 1848, the town annexed what is now the village of North Lyme to its south. In 1865, Somersworth became an unincorporated community when it merged with Lewisborough to form the present-day town of Somersworth. The first post office in Somersworth opened on September 8, 1827; it remained open until February 6, 1886. The first mayor of Somersworth was Nathan Hinton from 1849 to 1861 and again from 1870 to 1872. In 1902, work began on building a new courthouse complex that would include a jail and courtrooms as well as aanger hall and other public buildings. The project cost $1 million and was completed in 1908; at that time it became one of only twoCourts Courts Complexes in New England remaining standing from the early 1800s such that they can still be seen today across central Manchester area including parts near where I-4 exits off exit US Rte 506 into NH
