Nashua, New Hampshire is located in the northeastern United States and is bordered by Maine to the north, Vermont to the east, and Rhode Island to the south. Nashua was first settled in 1620 by English colonists. The town was named for Captain John Nash who explored and discovered the Connecticut River Valley in 1623. Nashua became a town on December 1, 1794. In 1812, Congress passed an act creating a Congressional District of New Hampshire which included Nashua. The district was abolished on January 3, 1814 when it was merged into the new state of Massachusetts. The population of Nashua peaked at 30,000 in 1870 but has since declined significantly.
