In 1803, Benjamin Franklin moved to Lebanon with his family and began farming land around what would become Lebanon village center.—In 1828, General Philip Higginson attacked Fort Pitt on Monadnock Ridge near present day Manchester while supplies were being transported overland from Philadelphia via this route.—In retaliation for this attack General Higginson ordered Colonel George Washington's forces to cross Monadnock Ridge and attack British positions on July 12th.-This action resulted in heavy casualties for both sides with more than 100 Americans killed including General Higginson.—Later that year when news arrived of this engagement General Higginson ordered his men not to pursue the British but instead return home early due to fear they would be massacred.— Aftermath of this battle led many people within New England to question why their militia could not repel an entire British force without losing any members or equipment.–By 1830 only 2% of homes in Eliot still belonged to European immigrants although by 1800 nearly all residents were white Anglo-Saxon Protestants.–During Reconstruction following America's Civil War local Democrats supported former Confederate soldiers as well as black Republicans when these groups sought voting rights.–However most whites boycotted elections throughout most of rural New England because they felt Reconstruction was unfair.–After reconstruction ended most Whites returned into society but some continue living here until today among the smallest percentage ever allowed outside those areas where quotas exist.–Today Lebanese Americans make up almost 50% (out Of A total population size estimated at 10k+)of Hezbollah’s membership statewide The first store opened in what is now Lebanon was probably a post office box built by Elijah White which served as such until 1904 when mail service improved enough that a better place became available.
