Navy gift history in Lebanon, New Hampshire began with the United States Marine Corps in 1941. The Marine Corps was founded as an infantry regiment and during World War II it grew to become a service branches of the US Armed Forces. The Marines were first deployed to support US Army troops in Lebanon during World War I and they remained there until 1945 when they withdrew from the war. In 1951, the Marines returned to Beirut to help fight against Syrian forces who had taken control of the city. The battle lasted for days and saw heavy casualties on both sides. After the war, Marines continued to serve in Beirut until 1975 when Lebanon became an independent country. In 1978, Marines again invaded Lebanon after a series of bombings and killings caused by Hezbollah supporters inside Lebanese schools. This time around, however, intervention by UNSCOM (United Nations Support Mission in Lebanon) led to an end to hostilities between Hezbollah and Lebanese government forces within a few weeks. In 1980-1981, Navy SEALs also participated in this invasion which aimed at toppling Syrian president Hafez al-Assad. However, no significant success was achieved despite multiple deployments by Navy SEALs over five years beginning in 1981. Since then there has been little military activity taking place in or around Beirut other than occasional torchlight vigils attended by marines or helicopters flying overhead accompanying humanitarian missions conducted by NGO’s (Non Governmental Organizations). Nevertheless, some elements of navy tradition have persisted such as Naval Air Station Lydd which is still used for training helicopter pilots; regular ceremonial launches of torpedoes into water off shore from RNAS Lydd; monthly reunions of all marine battalion members located throughout world including barracks at Naval Base Beirut; special events such as Christmas dinner served at HMQ George Washington Hotel where marines receive gifts from their families back home ashore; biannual sailing races along coast; etc.. These traditions provide some degree of continuity between navy units stationed abroad and those based locally although their mission may be different - e.g., Helicopter Squadron One currently conducts Search And Rescue operations while Helicopter Squadron Two provides airlift support for emergency relief efforts following natural disasters.. It should be noted that these activities are not limited just to naval units operating abroad but also include army veterans who have retired or are now living back home providing cover for maritime activity overseas if needed

Since Lebanese refugees began arriving in large numbers in 1949 following their country's civil war,underlying tensions between Hezbollah (a militant Shia militia) and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad have resulted in several deadly confrontations across Lebanon which have drawn global condemnation; these clashes are also often used as propaganda warfare by Hezbollah against Assad’s government
