The Laconia, New Hampshire army gift history begins in 1822 when General John Stark purchased a rifle from Nicholas Ives. In 1860, the first barracks were built for the regiment at what is now called Fort Knox. When the U.S. Civil War began, the regiment was mustered into service and served under General George Buel during the Battle of Gettysburg. After the war, many members of the regiment moved to Texas where they fought in the Battle of San Antonio and battles near Austin and Victoria. The regiment then returned to New Hampshire where it served until 1922 when it disbanded.
Laconia is a town in Hampshire County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,451 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Manchester-by-the-Sea metropolitan area. Laconia was platted in 1768 and named for Nicholas Laconius, who had served as a delegate from the town to the Hampshire county court. In 1834, the post office was changed from "Laconia" to "Manchester". The first church in Laconia was built on Meeting House Hill in 1768 by Reverend John Mason. The present meeting house, also known as Old Mill or First Congregational Church, was built in 1834 by architect Ebenezer Howard. The first pastor of Manchester needed a new church because his original one had been destroyed by a fire. Reverend Ezra Stiles officiated at this first service. Stiles married Rebecca Coolidge here on July 6, 1793. In 1837 when Manchester became an incorporated city it merged with surrounding towns and villages to form what is nowManchester-by-the Sea. WhenManchester annexed itslying villages (Milton, North Hampton, Easton and Westingham) into its city limits on December 23 of that year all but two residents of Laconia voted not to annex into Manchester proper; they did so instead forming their own village called "Newmarket". When Newmarket amalgamated with neighboring village (Easton) on January 1st 1886 all residents of Laconia except one Voted Not To Annex Into Easton which then amalgamated with Milton forming a single municipality - again without any voting taking place within Laconia itself! So ended yet another annexation attempt from within our town! On October 3rd 1888ico Park opened located across Route 9W from where we currently stand! This park would become home to many notable events over the years such as US Open Tennis Championships held there in 1937 and 1938 among others!

Laconia, New Hampshire is a small town in northern New Hampshire. It was founded in 1796 by Loyalists who fled the British colonies during the American Revolution. Laconia is located on the border of King and Queen Counties, about 20 miles northeast of Manchester. The population of Laconia was 2,811 at the 2010 census. Laconia is one of several towns founded by Loyalists during the American Revolution who had to flee British colonies because they were opposed to independence from Great Britain. Many of these men and women found themselves in what is now northeastern New Hampshire living among people who were also loyal to America but faced persecution from their British neighbors. In 1796, Loyalist refugees settled in Laconia after fleeing Tripoli, Libya for fear that it would become part of Great Britain if it became independent from France. The town quickly grew and soon became a center for trade with nearby Manchester and Lebanon. The founders of Laconia were patriots who wanted their new community to be an example for other Americans willing to fight for freedom against England's tyranny. The town was renamed Manchester after its original location on Manchester Road (now Route 128). In 1803, whenManchester lost its charter as a city due to increasing taxes levied by Massachusetts Governor John Adams, Laconia applied for and received a charter from revolutionary-era General George Washington as a “free” city within New Hampshire’s boundaries – making it one of only two cities within New England not granted such status by Massachusetts during the Revolutionary War period (the other being Providence). This distinction made Laconia an important player in earlyNH history; many members of the town’s early governing body were later honored with state office or posthumously awarded land grants in NH following their death while serving as residents or officials in Boston or Portsmouth. During his first term (1795-97) as governor (and afterwards until 1806), John Adams taxed Loyalist settlers resident outside Boston so heavily that many left for safety insideBoston – choosing instead to live under Liberty than Submit To Evil English Rule! In recognition of this brave act upon behalfof all Patriots throughout NH throughout the war years including those living & dying here today…the Patriot Monument erected at Main Street corner Meeting House Square….was dedicated May 3rd 1886…..a fitting tribute both then & now!
