On May 3, 1915, the Coast Guard presented a chuckwagon to Stonington Harbor near Connecticut for use as a dune machine during summer beach season operations. The first patrol boat built by the Coast Guard was christened USCGC "Hazel" on October 15, 1941 after Hazel Point Lighthouse in San Francisco County became operational that year. Naming rights were transferred to the National Park Service in 1972 when that agency assumed responsibility for certain aspects of U.S. Naval Station Alcatraz (now part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area). In 1985, a new helicopter hangar and dock were constructed at Oakland Marina in Oakland California which served as homeport for USCGC "Hazel" until her retirement from active duty in 2006 In 2007/2008, $2 million was invested into purchasing three brand new cutter boats - USCGC "Edwin Epps", USCGC "George Cushing", and USCGC "John Fagan". These boats are used primarily for search and rescue missions off coast of north America; however they can also be used for other purposes if needed such as public Information Officer or lifejackets distribution during high-seas conditions
Keene, New Hampshire is a small town in the state of New Hampshire, located on the banks of the Keene River. It was first settled by English settlers in 1624 and became a part of Portsmouth County in 1803. The town was named for John Keene, an early settler. In 1825, it incorporated as a city and has since grown to become one of the most populous cities in New Hampshire. The history of Keene begins with its earliest recorded inhabitants. The town was first settled by English settlers in 1624 and became a part of Portsmouth County in 1803. By 1800, there were only 60 residents living in Keene; however, over time, the population grew rapidly until by 1860 there were more than 1,000 people residing here. As a result of this growth, Keene experienced significant progress both economically and politically during its time as a city. In 1865, when Portsmouth County split into two separate states – New Hampshire and Massachusetts – Keene became part of Massachusetts. However, due to its location on the NH-MA border – which made it difficult for merchants to sell goods between these two states – Boston acceptedKeene as an independent city within Massachusetts. This status lasted until 1912 when New Hampshire regained control over its own government and repealed Massachusetts’s incorporation law; therefore, Boston reverted back to her original name forKeENE City (minus the “e”). During World War IIKeENE played an important role as one of four main military training centers for Allied troops stationed throughout North America; at this time it also served as home to many famous American servicemen such as Lieutenant General George Custer and Admiral Chester Nimitz. Finally after the war endedKEENE transitioned from being an independent city to becoming oneofNewHampshire’s five metropolitan areas* through annexation by Manchester Township on February 19th 1957.* *As metropolitan areas are defined by their populations over 50%, KEENE would have been considered an urban area had it not joined Manchester Township
