Concord, New Hampshire is a small town in central New Hampshire on the border of Massachusetts and Vermont. The population was 9,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Manchester-Derry- Lebanon telecommunications area which had a population of over 100,000 as of October 1, 2014. Concord's economy is based on agriculture and manufacturing. The first white people to arrive in Concord wereJonathan Edwards and his family who arrived in 1768 from North Carolina. They started a sawmill and grist mill in what is now downtown Concord. The first post office was established in 1769 by Nathaniel Palmer with the name "New Beginnings". In 1812, John Greenough set up a store in what is now downtown Concord after purchasing land from Samuel Adams for $10 per acre (about $2 million today). In 1814, General David Hunter named one of his brigades "The First Massachusetts Volunteers" because he wanted New Englanders to fight for their country against Mexico during the Mexican War. After America’s victory over Mexico at San Jacinto River Bridge on July 6th1821, General Hunter ordered all soldiers present at that battle to raise their arms and join him outside Concord as part of an open-air parade through town celebrating America’s victory! A museum located inside the State Capitol Complex commemorates this event today. In 1861, when New Hampshire became an independent state following its secession from Great Britain, Concord became its capital city with a new government building erected just east of the moat around Lake George which still stands today as part of Constitution Square Park (). In 1916–1917, during World War I (the war to end all wars), much activity took place here including production by local companies such as Ford Motor Company and Bethlehem Steel Corporation which produced munitions for both sides; many refugees also arrived here seeking work opportunities during wartime times. A new library was built on High Street between Main Street and Elm Street in 1922–1923 with funds provided by Mrs. Harriman along with her husband Nicholas Roerich who had been associated with several foundation organizations supporting educational programs throughout New England including those providing books to libraries across America during those years such as AmazonBasics Inc., National Geographic Society Publications Division (formerly McClure Newspapers), Rockefeller Foundation etc.. The library closed completely due to fire on September 14th1992 but reopened two months later under new management; it remains open today as Oneida County Public Library having moved into its current facility adjacent to High School which opened in fall 2006 having been built using funds donated by Governor Christie During World War II (1942–1945), most manufacturing took place within or near downtown Concord although some smaller operations took place scattered around town periphery like Ford Motor Company’s car plant on Pond Road south of High Street where workers assembling tanks were housed while American Motors operated a truck dealership off Pond Road northward into rural areas; other major manufacturers producing military supplies such as United Aircraft Manufacturing Co., National Radio Corporation etc.; also located here were Bethlehem Steel Corporation’s shipyards making tanksunder license from American Motors while McGuire Chevrolet made tractors under license from Chevrolet factory; both firms are long gone now but their remains can be seen parked underneath Interstate 91 eastbound exit ramp next to US Post Office building . As recently as 2002/2003 there remained active military activity taking place just east side Interstate 91 interchange when UAW Local 511 staged protests against planned job cuts at Yankee Candle Factory amidst increasing global economic recession . Many businesses closed however similar protests have since become less common given more positive public opinion regarding job security among recent employers During 2000 Census More than Halfway thru Town w/out any Housing available w/o evictions started evicting residents & starting “Housing For All” program where they would bring family members or friends if they could find housing However this has largely stopped due lack funding & support plus growing community opposition culminating into widespread civil disobedience beginning early 2011 .NH House Bill No:2010-XIII provides grant money for affordable housing project called NH Fair Housing Trust
