The history of the Coast Guard in Sparks, Nevada can be traced back to 1887 when it was organized as a volunteer force. The first unit in the area was called the Pacific Coast Rifles and served with distinction during the Mexican-American War. In 1912, the name was changed to the Nevada Volunteer Coast Guard and this incarnation of the Coast Guard continued service until 1959. During that time, it played a pivotal role in helping keep our state's coast safe from pirates and other criminals. From its humble beginnings, the Nevada Volunteer Coast Guard has become one of Nevada's most important institutions, helping to protect our coastline and ensure public safety. Today, there are over 1,000 members of the California National guard serving along Nevada's central coast. This reflects not only Reno's status as an economic center but also its importance as a gateway into Southern California. The Rincon Beach Civic Center is home to both units of the National Guard - The 176th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from El Cajon and The 9th Marine Bandwagon from Irvine - as well as many other auxiliary organizations located throughout Southern California that support military operations or provide ceremonial protection for specific events or locations. These unique installations make for an impressive display when on duty and offer plenty of opportunity for photos with your friends!

Sparks, Nevada is a small town in the U.S. state of Nevada located on the eastern edge of the Mojave Desert. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census and 2,190 at the 2016 census. It is part of Clark County. The town was founded in 1907 as an agricultural community called Eldorado Springs by H.J. Pickering and others near present-day Reno. Eldorado Springs became Sparks after nearby Elko became a Mormon settlement in 1868, when James Wickersham built his Rancho Eldorado east of what is now Sparks. In 1907, Pritchard picked up the name from General Nelson A Miles who had given it to him while he was commandant of Fort Bridger in Wyoming Territory during the Mexican–American War (1846-1848). The post office opened on November 15, 1907, with Jens Bohlin as its first postmaster; it continued operation until 1965 under various names including Eldorados Springs Station and Sands Point Station before reverting to Sparks on January 1, 1966. In 1951, Sparks voters passed a measure giving their municipalityhood toClark County following years of lobbying by then-mayor Harry Burtis and other civic officials effective June 30 that year; Clark County took over all municipal functions within Sparks except for fire protection until July 1 following which those responsibilities were transferred back to Sparks through an ordinance passed by the town council on October 26 that same year pursuant to a request from county commissioners concurrently with passage of chapter 715 of codeOf Laws Of Nevada entitled "An act authorizing townships To be formed within Clark County" which provided: "That there be created therein six townships named as follows: North Carson City Township; East Carson City Township; South Carson City Township; West Carson City Township; North Las Vegas Township; East Las Vegas Township." On December 3rd Council voted 3-2 against adoption of this designation petition having been sent out only to residents living within those respective townships not resident within either township limits thereby terminating any chance for formal designation petitions being received due thereto since all proposed boundary changes would have impacted residents living inside both township boundaries regardless per Chapteret's amendment thereto allowing onlyResidents Within Townships Limits To File Petition Thereunder however no action taken subsequent thereto resulting in approval by Governor Gary Johnson less than two weeks later on December 11th for presentation at his State Legislature desk upon enactment thereof effective January 1st 1971 reinstatement finally coming into effect on January 1st 1973 when county legislation providing for such reenactment came online effective that date also bringing about termination once again reverting permanently back to Sparks government functions status quo prior thereto except now relegated entirely unto local governance with responsibility currently vested solely with Mayor Harry Burtis
The Coast Guard has always been a important part of the American society. It began as a small fishing and militia group in 1790, however its first true form was as a protectorate of Great Britain. The Coast Guard has grown to be one of the most important organizations in America, both economic and military. The Coast Guard is responsible for carrying out many duties which include 6 major tasks: rescue operations; maritime security; public safety; defense of our coasts and waters; disaster relief; and oceanographic research. In addition, the Coast Guard also maintains 16 smaller services which provide support to missions within those six main responsibilities. Since its inception, the Coast Guard has given back to society in many ways by donating money, goods, or services. For example, throughOperation Sailboat Willie- which provided passage for thousands of refugees during World War II- the Coast Guard helped build close relationships with local communities across America. Additionally, since 9/11/2001 there have been countless donations from members of the Coast Guard who have volunteered their time and resources to help respond to global events such as Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. This spirit continues today with Operation MAVINET- an effort to collect debris from crashed ships off the coast of Maine- which is currently ongoing.

Sparks, Nevada is a small town nestled in the mountains of western Nevada. It has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s. In 1875, Brigham Young and his group of Mormon missionaries set up a farm called Cottonwood on the banks of the Sparks River. The Mormons were followed by other pioneers, and soon there was a small village named Sparks established near what is now downtown Reno. The first business in Sparks was an inn run by Captain John Sutter and his brother-in-law, Hiram Babcock. They operated the inn from 1876 until 1881 when they sold it to Isaac Searles. After serving as mayor for three terms (1892-1896), Searles donated land to build the first courthouse in Sparks. The cornerstone for the courthouse was laid on July 7, 1896 by Governor Of Nevada Harry Hinkle. The post office at Sparks opened on October 3, 1886 under direction of General George Armstrong Custer with headquarters at what is now First National Bank Building #2A on Main Street (later renamed State Capitol Plaza). The first postmaster was Wm. Pemberton who served from 1886 until 1893 when he became Postmaster General under Ulysses S Grant Administration and resigned after being accused of bribery during that time period In 1907, local citizens commissioned architect Arthur Ashe to design a new public high school which would serve as the nucleus for what would become Carson–Newman High School today In 1909 local citizens founded Reno Municipal Airport which became one of Northern Nevada's most important airports . In 1931 Spark's population had grown past its initial 10 residents making it an incorporated city . On November 13th , 1933 Mayor Harvey Fenton bonding went before the City Council asking for approval to annex portions of Storey County including parts of Storey Lake which included both Spark and Storey Valley On December 11th 1933 Mayor Fenton submitted an annexation application requesting annexation of all unincorporated territory within Storey County including both Spark and Storey Valley totaling over 1/4 square miles
Sparks was founded in 1883 by two men, John W. Sparks and Harry Fenton. The town had a population of around 100 people when it was founded. It grew quickly, and by 1907 there were over 1,000 residents. In 1912, the town built its first school, which became the nucleus of the community's education system. In 1925, Sparks merged with nearby Reno to form a single city. The merger resulted in a dramatic change for Sparks: from an agricultural-based community to one that relied heavily on industry and services. Today, Sparks is home to several major companies including Northern Nevada Radio Corporation (NNR), NV Energy Company, NV Power Generation Company, and Masten Services Group Incorporated.
