The United States Army has been deployed in Nevada for over a century. The first military deployment to Nevada was in 1864 when the 1st Cavalry Regiment, under the command of General George Armstrong Custer, was called to duty at Fort Tejon. Since then, the Army has deployments throughout Nevada including World War II and Desert Storm. Today, the Army is headquartered in Springfield, Missouri. The Nevada Army National Guard is responsible for all army troops stationed in and around Sparks. In 1913, Sparks businessman John Gorman donated land to the City of Sparks for a park that would become known as Gorman Park. The first unit stationed in Nevada were the 2nd Infantry Regiment which arrived in 1907 from New Mexico Territory. However, it wasn't until World War I that Nevadan soldiers joined in on war efforts overseas with Service No 5455th Infantry Battalion being mobilized on April 15th 1918 at Reno Field located south of Carson City by orders of General Pershing who felt that desert warfare could be won through amphibious assaults rather than an infantry assault like what had been attempted before him during World War I with various failures such as Lassen Peak Massacre where 3 officers including one commander were killed by their own men after an ill-advised advance into enemy territory) . Dismounted units continued operations effectively against hostile forces both ashore (the battles of Anaconda Valley and Belleau Wood) while afloat (Operation Neptune’s Spear off California’s southern coast) however disbanded units did not receive official credit for their actions or are best known through alternate sources such as oral histories or memoirs written by individual soldiers themselves sometimes supplementing professional historians' accounts despite this lack of documentary evidence).

Sparks is a town in Clark County, Nevada, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of the Salt River Valley and is part of the Reno–Tahoe Metropolitan Statistical Area. With its downtown area and casinos (the Sparks Strip), Sparks has become an attractive tourist destination for both locals and visitors. The first permanent residents of what would become Sparks were white settlers who came to the area in 1859. At that time, it was a small gold mining camp known as Storey Gulch. A post office was established in 1861, but noone ever lived there until 1861 when James Hance moved from Virginia to start trading with prospectors in what would become Nevada. In 1865, Company C of the Union Pacific Railroad arrived at Storey Gulch and set up a temporary store there before moving on to Cheyenne Canyon where they found more gold nuggets than anyone had imagined possible. In 1870, James Hance's son-in-law Sam Harmon opened a general store on Commercial Street which became one of the earliest businesses in Sparks. This early business community thrived because it had easy access to water supplies and transportation due to its location just outside of Reno proper on State Route 20A (now called US Highway 95). By 1880, some 300 people lived in Sparks with over 50 businesses serving them including banks (the First National Bank & Trust Company founded in 1881), grocery stores, barber shops and restaurant chains like Johnnie Rockets (founded 1888) which migrated from Northern California during prohibition era. During World War II many American citizens chose not to serve based on their beliefs about war profiteering or totalitarianism; this led to social unrestrained by any governing authority other than individual self-reliance leading to increased crime rates within Sparks during wartime period as people took advantage of available freedoms while others were forced into hard labor camps or worked for Axis forces under duress or starvation conditions . Sparks, Nevada is a small town located in Clark County, Nevada. It was founded on February 14, 1859 by J.D. Sparks and his brother-in-law Wm. H. Moffitt as a result of the discovery of gold in the area. The first post office was established in 1859, and the first store opened in 1861. The name of the town was changed to Sparks on October 1, 1865 after it became connected with the nearby city of Reno through an agreement between Sparks and Reno Mayor James Brougham. The population of Sparks grew rapidly during the early 1900s due to its location at the junction of two major wagon trails that linked California with Oregon and Nevada Territory: The Mormon Trail and State Route 20 (later US 95). By 1910 there were 524 residents living in Sparks; by 1920 there were 1,035 residents; and by 1930 there were 1,782 residents. However, during World War II Sparks experienced a significant decline as many citizens enlisted in military service or left for war overseas. In 1945 only 105 residents remained within the boundaries of town limits; by 1950 only 54Residents still lived within those boundaries During most of its history Sparks has been an agricultural community with some limited manufacturing activity taking place around farming tools and other items used for agriculture such as flourishes or feed rations
