The Sparks Air Force Base was first established in 1947 as a flying training base. The current air force deployment gift history began during the early days of the Nevada statehood movement. On July 4, 1912, the Nevada Legislature authorized the purchase of land for $1 million to be used for military purposes. The new air force installation was named "Sparks" in honor of then-Governor John G. Sparks and local citizens who had contributed to the effort to get Nevada admitted into the Union as a state. The 1st Fighter Squadron (later redesignated 2nd Wing) arrived at Sparks on October 12, 1942 from McClellan AFB, California and trained until January 1943 when they moved to RAF Merville Airfield in England. In addition to its operational roles at RAF Merville, 2nd Wing flew escort missions for bombers over Germany during World War II. After hostilities ended, 2nd Wing returned home to disband on September 9, 1945 and recommissioned at Reno Army Air Field as an instructor squadron with F-6s under Lieutenant Colonel Everett J. Logue. Withdrawal of combat aircraft from active duty caused complete reorganization of USAF units on November 15, 1946 when Major General Leslie Rhett Butler assumed command of all UHF Joint Forces Command posts throughout America including Reno AAF and activated 2nd Fighter Squadron thereunder with F-9s equipped with electronic warfare gear which helped improve Allied victory over Japan in World War II while also providing training for future fighter pilots. Upon General Butler's retirement on May 16, 19492d Fighter Squadron relocated back at Reno AAF under Colonel Clive Wyer). From 1951-1954 members of both squadrons served concurrently as part SAC 'A' Headquarters Group located at Maxwell AFB Ala where they provided support for Tactical Air Command operations worldwide before returning home to Reno AAFon August 1st 1954 effective completion of SAC 'A' organization changes pioneered by General Butler that eliminated duplicate services within South Korea AFledging Okinawa Asukai StripesIn late 1955 Republic Of ChinaAir Force took control over Spark AFB operations following Japanese surrender Effective date was March 25th 1957 expiration of lease agreement between United States Government and Chinese Nationalist government ending facility sharing arrangement Based upon need analysis it became evident that use or mothballing facilities would not be possible provide continued operation without significant impairment thereto replacement proposals were received from Boeing Missile Division Princeton NJMay 14 1958Election results showedqualified individuals were available to take position no less than 60% filled proposal accepted resulting in establishmentof McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corporation FAA Plant at Sparks AFB becoming first McDonnell Douglas plant outside North America On April 17th 1959 after more than four years delay finally groundbreaking ceremony occurred pour construction commenced initial runway configuration consisted only two parallel parallel taxiways designated Main/Departure Runway No 1 & No 0 .For reasons unknown main runway designation changed again effective date is December 5th 1959 main runway remained designated Departure Runway No 1

Sparks, Nevada is an unincorporated community in Clark County, Nevada. It is located on the edge of the Black Hills, at an elevation of 2,179 feet (719 m). The population was 1,811 as of the 2000 census. The name Sparks comes from a gold rush era mining camp called "Sparks" on nearby Hill Country Creek. In 1851 Brigham Young's group organized a wagon train to prospect for gold in what is now Utah Territory. Some 7 miles south of Sparks they discovered and named a creek after General James H. Logan who had led their expedition into Utah Territory that year: Hill Country Creek became known as Logan Creek after General Logan's visit to town. A post office was established at Sparks in 1881, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1915. The first post office building was built about 1880 by Wm H. Cook and later used by woolen mill owner Cyrus McCormick & Co.. The first store opened in 1886 by Jno Fenton with local mercantile items such as flour, pork lard and butter being sold along with supplies from Salt Lake City. By 1907 there were six stores in town including two groceries and three feed stores plus one blacksmith shop serving both small farmers and city residents alike; the population growth during this time came largely due to the influx of miners and their families seeking new opportunities near the burgeoning Gold Rush towns of Las Vegas or Reno. In 1907 there were also two churches: First Baptist Church which served primarily miners while Second Baptist Church functioned more generally among townspeople; both churches were torn down during World War II when much of downtown Dresden burned down following an air raid on September 3rd 1942 caused by American bombers flying over Reno that night searchlights shining down onto buildings contained huge piles of coal dust which resulted in extensive damage especially to church windowsills where tiny sparks show up brilliantly under fluorescent light - this phenomena is still seen today from late morning until evening when skies are clear) . Afterward most people continued living within walking distance of their jobs or businesses only using public transportation for travel outside town limits; however buses began running regularly outsidetown minutes after raids ended which increased commerce inside town limits but actually decreased efficiency since everyone was too busy eating breakfast before going out into the fields for lunch! In 1950 magnetic tape recorder pioneer RCA Victor moved its plant from Camden, New Jersey to Reno; part of its decision making process concerning location decided upon because Reno would be open 24 hours per day instead of having to close at 4 PM like Camden did which could have interfered with production schedules for other factories around America due to lack thereof nightlife options etcetera etcetera The early days at RCA included daily operations starting at 5 AM followed by overnight shifts ending around 10 PM local time so employees could get home safely then retire for dinner before going back into work again tomorrow; typical romanian coffee costs $1/pound back then equivalent to $105/kg today) . Eventually many other companies followed suit including Western Electric who opened their own plant adjacent to RCA Victor’s main campus housing 500 employees initially using Air Force hangars west off I-30 across from downtown giving rise to modern-day legend “Go West Child” although no evidence supports this claim . Today Sparks remains mostly rural with few recent developments aside from a couple dozen homes scattered throughout rolling hills bordered by irrigated farmland holdings dating back centuries ago

The town was named after George Sparks, a settler who located his property in what is now Sparks in 1859. At that time it was considered one of the most remote towns on the West Coast due to its location near Douglas Lake and other mountains. In 1902, when Reno became a city, Sparks joined it and was renamed after its founder, J.D. Whitehead.whitehead had owned land in Reno since 1892 and had been developing it into an agricultural area with mills, farms and homes until he sold it all to city officials in 1902 for $1 million dollars. The city built several large residences on Whitehead's land including one called The Gables which still stands today as a national historical landmark. Sparks experienced significant growth during World War II as many local men enlisted in military service and worked on production plants at nearby Clark Air Force Base or developed new ways to produce munitions during wartime. After the war ended, many people left town for various reasons such as lack of jobs or increasing competition from larger cities around them. However, some returned over time and founded businesses such as banks or grocery stores in what is now downtown Sparks/Reno
