The Reno Army National Guard unit, the 1st Battalion, 4th Cavalry Regiment was activated on November 16, 1912. It was redesignated as the 1st Nevada Infantry in 1916 and then became the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment in 1920. The battalion was mobilized again for World War II on October 25, 1942 and re-designated as the 3rd Brigade Combat Team (1st NV) of the Nevada Division of the United States Army Forces Far East on December 9, 1942. The brigade served in New Guinea until January 1945 when it returned to America. The brigade then redeployed to Okinawa where it fought from March 15 through April 10 1945. From Okinawa it went back to California for demobilization on September 2 1946. In 1949, Headquarters and Headquarters Company were reassigned to Camp Carson National Military Park atsysfield California as part of a Base Realignment and Closure program that closed most US military installations around Reno (except Camp Carson). The company remained here until 1959 when they relocated back to Reno with their new headquarters complex which is still standing today. After 1959 there was no more military activity atsysfield so the company disbanded there in 1959 also. The company re-emerged in 1964 when they were reactivated as a detachment of the 372nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (3rd NV) based at Nellis Air Force Base Nevada They served with this detachment until 1985 when they were transferred to Fort Worth Texashomeland duty being stationed at Lackland AFB TX from 1985-1994 before returning home again in 1995 after being stationed at Hurlburt Field Florida for six months while awaiting deployment overseas once again! In 2006 their HQ detachment moved back home once again but continue their deployments abroad tours with various units currently stationed overseas including Bahrain Kuwait Qatar UAE etc...
